Re: Let's have a talk about woodcraft and bushcraft....

Hey, guys, yeah, Agrippa has the naked dudes. Then again, I think several might. Those fight manuels weren't only to show the skill of the author, but a chance for the artist to show his skill, as well. Or it could be possible is was just showing the points where the blade would address the body.. R...

Re: Let's have a talk about woodcraft and bushcraft....

LOL Yes, but in the movie, they really used nothing from Capo Fero, Agrippa, Bonetti.... but a lot from Flynn. In fact, they pretty much lifted the whole fight from Captain Blood. A very nice homage, I grant you. Ack, that's the problem now with so many of my friends. We study the fight scenes of th...

Re: Let's have a talk about woodcraft and bushcraft....

LOL! Yes! Tell that to the guy I train with! No, I'll tell him! Of course, in reality, that's a great way to win a fight. Of course, I've noticed that when using baskets and buckers, things change. All of a sudden, both of us are hunting wrists and arms. I'm not at all familiar with cotton titus or ...

LOL Well said, R.D. Sounds like you're also channeling Meyer. The longsword his his main vehicle to teach the principles, and everything else follows from that.

Re: Let's have a talk about woodcraft and bushcraft....

Cup hitls are a good step above a simple cross hilt, but a full basket is better. Of course, depends on the style of combat you're practicing, and I somehow don't recall Aragorn's basket hilted broadsword... LOL Or his buckler. Also, when you say "fenccing" the term is kind of vague. Not s...

Re: Renaissance Faire Rendezvous

That would be cool, a squad of rangers at the...er...range.

If we get a chance to link up, I might be able to find you a bow that you can use until you get one of your own. As I said, I've got a few... Hmm, might depend on what you an draw, though.

Re: Let's have a talk about woodcraft and bushcraft....

The daggers have pertty good cross hilts, but that still doesn't stop the odd hit from getting through. In addition, the guy I train with has this very annoying habit of chaning his target in midswing, essentailly drawing the dagger block in order to hit the hand. With a buckler it doesn't matter. G...

Re: New Bow! (and arrow question)

Nice! A fletching jig really helps. It's good for setting the feathers into the proper position. I wouldn't fletch without it. For points, well it depends on your use. For practice, I'd just use field points. Easier to extract from targets (and not as brutal on the targets). Also, many places won't ...

Re: Let's have a talk about woodcraft and bushcraft....

Certainly, I.33 can be adapted, quite readily to sword and dagger, letting the dagger stand in for the buckler. Personlly, it's my favorite form, fun-wise. Unbelievably fast. That beign said, the buckler is a much better defense. I agree with Silver's comments on the dagger being "an imperfect ...

Re: Renaissance Faire Rendezvous

Coolness. I used to live just a bit east of Weirton. Got a friend who lives there who isa good archer. He also taught me to fletch. And he's amazingly good at finding things. Kind of how I ended up with a fistful of bows...

Hey, EM, got your reply on alternatives to PayPal, very good. But for some reason, my replies aren't leaving my outbox. So I'll repeat my question here. When do we do this?

Re: Ranger Games

"Another marine reporting sir. I've served my time in hell." But, yeah, I know what you mean. Guess I should say, I'm in terrible shape for me. And I don't bother with head kicks anymore. The idea of the competition is really more about evaluation, an assessment of skills. And as Bruce Lee...

Re: Ranger Games

All of this sounds fantastic. A combination of games and a seminar. Different SCA kingdoms usually do a periodic "University" with different people teaching classes. That's a very good way to learn. As well as just a good chance to hang out with like minded people. Heh, I'm NOT flexible. T...

Re: Ranger Games

Yeah, and it's a bummer, 'cause I'd really like to do this. And, actually I do get to N.C. a couple of times a year. Unfortunately, it's the other end of the state. Down near the coast. But I still think the idea is one we could work on. 50 acres is good, and plenty of room for a lot of activity, de...

Re: Ranger Games

LOL Mission accomplished, then.

But, yes, the concept of multiple tasks, combined with a sort of run just intrigues me. Shooting, oh yes. Some sort of awareness game. And obstacle or two. Some kind of woodcraft task. Some sort of navigation exercise. Some kind of martial activity.
