Re: The Name of What We Do

I usually use the term Middle Earth recreation. I am not reenacting since that would imply doing the same thing that has already been done. I am recreating Middle Earth to the best of my abilities (limited as they are).

Re: 2018 Southeast Fall Moot

Once more the cycle of seasons has turned and the Rangers gather before the dark months of winter. It is the time for the brethren of the forest to come together and trade skills, goods, and stories. The lands around Eastwind Castle will once again be surrounded with the sounds of the forge, of arro...

2018 Southeast Fall Moot

First, I want to apologize for not getting info out on this board sooner. It has been a rough summer and my motivation for a lot of things was lacking, though that is no excuse for ignoring the forum which brought most of us together in the first place. That said, the 2018 Southeast Fall Moot is com...

Re: 2017 Southeast Moot

Eric, thank you for catching my lapse in time sense. Corrected the date in the title.

Some days the brain does what it wants to do not what I want it to do.

Re: A Quandary Over Buckles

I second Raymond's Quiet Press. I have several from them. Armor and castings (http://armourandcastings.com/category/prjazhki-/) is another good choice.

Looking forward to seeing how this ends up.

2017 Southeast Moot

The date for the 2017 Southeast Ranger Moot is 13-15 October and will be held at Eastwind Castle. This is a slight change from previously scheduled but the change was a result of scheduling issues. I am asking that we get the word out and invite as many people as we might think are interested. I wil...

Re: 'Who Am I?' - Persona Creation Worksheets

I have seen similar ideas for SCA and gaming but never really thought much about my MERF persona. I use the same name for MERF, Dagorhir, and an old online RPG. The character background is a little different for each, though in all cases I am an half-elven Ranger. I will have to look at this to fles...

Re: Quick leatherwork question

The best advice I can give is use good quality veg-tanned or latigo leather. A lot of the soft leather is chrome tanned and does have a tendency to stretch. If the center of the leather when you cut it is gray-ish, it's chrome tanned. Veg-tanned is harder and is tan all the way through. Latigo leath...

Re: On shield shapes...

It used to be, in the time before dirt was invented (and before the world went crazy with lawsuits) , one could strike shins, one's shield edge could contact an opponent, etc. All of that stuff was done away with for safety reasons, insurance, and to a lesser degree, serious pain. Get smacked acros...

Re: Southeast Rangers

I don't know where Boonville is. Is it over toward the mountains? If so, it's probably about 4-5 hours from me. But I'm always looking for the opportunity to get to the mountains when I can. Boonville is just of I77, northwest of Winston Salem. Of course North Carolina has some phenomenal state par...

How far are you from Boonville? I know a place there that we could probably use. Will be up there next month, can check prices.

Re: Southeast Rangers

Just a reminder that this event is now only 2 weeks away!! I look forward to seeing those of you who can make it and for those that can't make it this year, I doubt this will be the last year. In fact I am of the opinion that maybe it should rotate locations so not everyone has to travel each year. ...
