Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures
I have not tried the sheeting. I have a 8'x8' tarp that I made out of 8oz. cotton drill which is actually what Civil War era shelter halves were made of and it is not very heavy. I haven't been in a heavy downpour in it but it did a decent job of holding back the rain.

Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures
Thanks Taurinor but it's pure luck with the photos, we tend to forget to take them and then take a quick burst and forget again. We also tend to feel a bit silly if we pose for one so the reflection in this instance was just good fortune, though it was the first thing I noticed looking back through...

Just to add, I was actually going to try to put and event like this together in Arkansas, but there are insurance issues with the place I wanted to ues. Where abouts in Arkansas? I'm in North Texas at the moment and I'd be down for a moot. Been thinking about hiking Eagle Rock Loop in what little k...

That's so cool! Man, why can't we do things like that in the states? I've thought the same thing about Australia and I think it boils down to three things. - Finding enough people who want the same level of immersion and the sacrifices that come with it. You'd need to vet potential applicants to ma...

Re: Keeping Watch
I have done it for immersive Civil War events, but those were events that 30-40 people in attendance. Even then, there is often hesitation about setting our pickets on the last night of an event due to safety purposes of people not getting enough sleep to make the trip home the next day. Having done...

I used to have one of these, they ar epretty handy. There is another historical one, and I can't seem to find the vendor that had it, but it had a third piece that had a mica sheet that acted as a pane/wind shield.
Edit, found it.

Re: War Mattocks
I wonder if Tolkien had something similar to a Roman dolabra in mind. They were an engineering tool that the soldiers carried, but it could very well be used as a weapon.

Re: Natural Leather Dye
I have done the vinegaroon dye, steel wool soaked in vinegar, and find that it rots the leather even if it is promptly oiled after the drying process. Anyone else have that issue?

Greg, just make sure you come down between October and June, that way it's cool enough to go out and do something. Summer can be quite oppressive here.Greg wrote:Good to see you! Half my family lives in Russellville, so we still need to connect. I'll let you know when I'm coming down.

New "Old" guy
Well,,,,I'm back. After a long hiatus from any kind of reenacting, I am wanting to get back into some rangering. It's been a couple of years since I've been on the boards, but I still have my star brooch and group t-shirt from a few years ago. My name in Marvin. I still live in Dardanelle, Arkansas....

I was in the 501st for many years with a Tusken Raider and a Sand Trooper. They have to be 501c because there is some issue with copyright issues. Every costume they have is Techically a copyright infringement, but when it was Lucasfilm he was ok with it because everything was for charity. There was...
