Re: Ft. Parker gear test hike

Ahhhh okay, that makes sense! I thought it looked a bit like Pippin’s sword! And you’re right, it does seem to have that general eked vibe! Thanks for the info!

Re: Ft. Parker gear test hike

Sounds like an exciting and very educational outing!

Question - not to derail things, but it’s been on my mind lately - can I get a little more specific info on the sword you’re carrying here?

Re: Updated arrow vendors?

The migratory bird act is only wild type birds, and it does include wild type game birds that are captive bred. I used to raise captive wild gamebirds, the paperwork is a nightmare when selling feathers or dead stock for any reason. There are "feather" buyers who do have stocks of livesto...

Re: Hi everybody!

Welcome! It’s funny - your background, and how you ended up here, seems very close to my own story, just a few years behind! I hope you enjoy it here, and find the forums both helpful and welcoming! And in terms of incorporating this into your everyday life, my best suggestion would be to try and fi...

Dúnedain Sword Designs

Apologies if this has been discussed at length in a previous thread - I’m sure it probably has been, in fact, but I wanted to get all my thoughts out here as well as possible, and I figured a new thread would be the best way to do it. (I also cross-posted this to the FB group, incidentally). Anyhoo…...

Re: Updated arrow vendors?

Okay, so she has gotten back to me and confirmed: - Yes, it is fine to use the feathers of birds you have legally hunted. - Yes, it is fine to be given those feathers to use, or to give them to someone else to use. - No, technically it is not okay to use foraged feathers, even if they are from a leg...

Re: Updated arrow vendors?

Except that turkey is a native North American bird, so there must be exceptions. I always understood that certain birds were considered livestock, and it was therefore permissible to both sell and use their feathers - and this would also include legally hunted birds like goose and wild turkey. But I...

Re: Design for Dwarf Seax

Oh, how exciting! I’m eager to see the final result! I’ve been thinking a lot about Dwarven design motifs lately, and how much I love the geometric hard-angles that Weta leaned into, but how I also love a lot of more intricate intertwining Norse and Saxon influenced designs, and in the end I think I...

Re: New Boots!

Ah yes! I should probably do an in-depth follow-up, shouldn’t I? If I can remember when I get home, I will try to take some photographs of them currently. This would also be a good excuse for me to take them down into the workshop to clean and condition them, since I’ve been pretty remiss about that...

Re: White Handled Knife

Yeah, that seems pretty close to what I envision as well - maybe also with a bit of Khyber knife influence. These general shapes all seem to fit in fairly well with the image in my head (though perhaps with a little more Elven embellishment/flare).

Re: White Handled Knife

Yeah, ultimately I agree - I think it would make sense for something like that to be a fairly large, multi-purpose weapon/tool combo, so a langseax or messer seem like good places to draw inspiration. In my head, I’m thinking of something fairly close to a seax, but maybe with more organic lines? Le...

Re: White Handled Knife

I definitely think the Elves would have preferred whatever style of knife was most useful for the specific task at hand, but I also personally see the Elves as crafting every single thing they use with finesse and artistry, so nothing is rough or unfinished, no matter how utilitarian the item may be...

Re: Dúnadan Ranger Illustrated Kit By Layers

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SO VERY MUCH!!!! I especially like the little stitching touches like that square under the dude's neck slit that show you've actually made and worn this stuff. :) I also really like that gal's tunic with the arc motif at her sleeves - classy! I have thoughts on the undergarmen...

What Might the Elfstone Have Looked Like?

(Cross-posting here from the FB group) So here’s a question I’ve been pondering on-and-off for quite a while now: what might the Elessar brooch given to Aragorn by Galadriel, and from which he derived his kingly name, have actually looked like? The brooch was said to be made in Gondolin, sometime in...
