Home made bows
I haven't seen a link to this site yet, but if you're just getting started in archery, but are daunted by the price of equipment, there is hope! I built my first (and second...and third) bow using instructions from this site http://poorfolkbows.com/ Easy to follow, minimal tool requirements, and all...

Re: Leatherworking Projects
What are you looking to make? A covering for the inside of your arm for archery, the outside of your arm for protection, or both? I made my own pattern for mine, and it covers the inside and outside of my arm very well.

Re: St. Hubert's Rangers
Ditto what Ringulf said, but also make sure you check your state laws as they vary. I personally wouldn't go after a deer with anything less than 45lbs unless I had to, and never make a shot beyond the range that you know you can consistently hit at...even if the deer looks really tempting

Re: Hi all
One thing i do need to ask is how i could carry my kit. I currently have a quiver and i dont know how i could carry all my other equiptment. There are tons of options out there, from leather belt pouches to haversacks. If you browse through the kit section of the forum you will find tons of things....

My best guess is Forlong the Fat.

Re: Wooden arrowheads
By wooden arrowheads I don't think she means a separate head... Actually, I did mean a separate head  I am positive that poplar is way too light, as would be pine or definitely balsa. I was thinking more along the lines of oak or teak or something like those. If you used heart pine, or gre...

Re: Comments on Patterns/Instructions for Ranger Kits
Go ahead and cut the gussets like normal, but don't sew up the taper. Then you just have to hem the two edges and put a button or laces at the cuff. Gives you the taper to the wrist, but you can still roll the sleeves up.

Those look great! How do they work with the rest of your kit? I would love to see a picture of that.

Re: Trade point(s)
Just a thought on this subject, as far as socket arrow heads go. broadheads in the viking era often had a tang that fitted into a hole in the shaft. the shaft was wound with linen string for about two inches down. ive made heads like that and they are very sturdy indeed. That seems like a much easi...

That was a fun quiz! Some of my stats are a little different from how I calculated them...some higher, some lower. Good times

Re: D&D 5E
Just to throw the numbers off a little, I didn't start playing D&D until I 2003. I've been in 3.5 the entire time, and I really enjoy it. I looked at 4E, and I hated it. It robs a lot of the party dynamics, and the need for different classes. I do like the Pathfinder stuff, but I haven't switche...

Re: Your usual setup
For my modern shelter, I carry the modern equivalent of the cloak, a poncho! Used one for years in the army, and it's a really versatile piece of kit. I go for weatherproof first, warmth second, and security third. If I have security then privacy is not an issue...if they can't find you they can't s...

Ranging With Small Children
As a soon to be new father, I was wondering about the experiences others have had with their children, and how they introduced them into the wonderful world of Tolkien, and ranging. I will definitely be reading all the Tolkien books to my little girl when she gets older, as well as taking her campin...
