Re: Tandy Plainsman Boot pattern

I have the Plainsman pattern, and have made a pair. I used deerskin that I inherited from my grandparents. I didn't like the fringe around the top, so I did not include it in my finished boots. Instead of using a rotary punch to make holes and latigo to construct the boots, I used a 4-prong punch to...

Re: Sssooo... Dungeons and Dragons?

I have played D&D 3.5 with a whole lot of homebrew thrown in. DM was a buddy of mine who had been playing for years and each of his campaigns he kept in the same world/continuity, so our game had a rich history not included in the books as a result. We played with people from 4 states by bringin...

This is a great idea, I look forward to seeing it finished. Out of all cloak designs have encountered II like the Bocksten the most.

Re: My First "Project"

Oh... that "kolrosing" looks fantastic! Pardon my ignorance - what's the difference between that and scrimshaw? The choice of filler? The cutting method? Either way, it looks fantastic! Taurinor, have you tried it yet? Ray Mears did some kolrosing on a knife he made is Sweden, see below: ...

Re: Greetings to all.

Welcome Melthrist, I also read The Hobbit when I was 11 and Lord of the Rings when I was 12-13, and have been hooked from then on. Now I am 36, and still going strong. Glad you found your way here.

Re: New Images for Main Website

Works for me too! There are plenty in your Dropbox that will work as well. As for Andy's pics, I'm bummed none of them are large enough - had that same issue with using them for Instagram, but went ahead and did it anyway. One thing that worked well though was to create a collage of several of them...

Re: 30% Off Alpaca Wool Blankets--11/25/16

My parents took a trip to Ecuador and brought back an alpaca wool blanket that they gave to my wife for christmas a few years ago. It has been her favorite blanket ever since. It has always surprised my how soft alpaca is compared to sheep's wool. If you don't like the itchiness of standard wool, al...

Re: Packs and Cloaks

You could wear the pack under the cloak: But in the dim dusk of a winter’s day there appeared suddenly among them a man, as it seemed, of great bulk and girth, cloaked and hooded in white; and he walked up to the fire without a word. And when men sprang up in fear, he laughed, and threw back his h...

Re: Antler cord lock?

You may be talking about using antler as a toggle, not a cord lock. Cord locks as we understand them are recent inventions with springs inside them. Perhaps an antler toggle for your bracers would work, like this:

Bushcraftusa.com is one of the best sites on woodcraft I have ever found. I highly recommend it.

http://www.bushcraftuk.com is also very good, and often has a more old-world flavor to it.

Medieval Taylor's Assistant: Making Common Garments

Here is the link to the PDF of a book entitled "Medieval Taylor's Assistant: Making Common Garments 1200-1500." I was searching for a pattern for a gugel-style hood when I found a reference to this book. I did a google search, and found that the PDF was available online. It has a lot of pi...
