SOme interesting quiver ideas

I'm not a huge fan of a lot that ETSY has to offer- except for MY stuff, which is awesome, of course ( ;-) ) but this caught my eye this morning. This maker makes quivers that also carry the bow, an ax and a pouch of varied size. Oh! And a rope. Because an adventure without a 50' rope is just not an...

Re: One Sword... or Many?

Lots of good advice in this thread. I makes 'em, so I can add a few tidbits... For most folks, I'd tell you to NOT go with stainless ANYTHING, as typically, even the force of a good swing can cause most of those cheapy swords to fail, and do so horribly! The best money/value/function sets I've seen ...

Re: Cold steel seconds

The steel these are made of, and the hardness they are (rather soft!), you be able to boil water on them and not touch the temper, really. The temperature they are brought to to get to the rockwell of 45-46 is right about 600 degree F, so don't worry at all away from the edge- but if you get close t...

Re: My WATER BOTTLES

Stitching around edges is a waste of time and effort- as it'll be the first thing to snag, get pulled off, or worn away. You NEVER see period finds done with it an any location that will get a lot of wear~ Pouch edges, sure, collars and ruffs of the finer clothes- sure. Even edges of shoes- but not ...

Re: My WATER BOTTLES

Damn them! MAKE them get it for you!! Although, un-purified- it's pretty nasty... but would work AWESOME for torches and the like~ No- it's melting temp isn't THAT much higher to be liquid than beeswax- but it's RANGE of liquid temperature goes a LOT higher. I melt beeswax in a container, then put i...

HEy guys- a quick update. I ordered 5 sax, and 1 bowie. All but 1 sax are perfectly straight... All came packaged, with sheaths- so grab a regulation but-ton of them for gifts, tools and the odd Rangering project! As to shaping- the things you might want would be a HFT (Harbor Freight Tools) TSO (To...

Re: A New and Easy take on Pack-able Frying Pans

Great little pan idea! I have altered a couple of gold pans into fry pans as well- you can sometimes find them in a 5-6" base size, the outside dia. is about 8" or so. I added a rolled tube, like your handle tube- but only about 2" long to put a stick into on mine. Also- you can get t...

Re: My WATER BOTTLES

BEeswax alone is not the best choice for sealing, as it actually likes water a lot- and over time, you'll probably see seeping. A mix with brewer's pitch is best- I get it from http://www.jastown.com , they sell it by the pound. I will use a mix of about 50/50, give or take as a liner- after I've se...

This is a repeat of a post I made, but figure folks here will be the ones who are most interested~ got the email this morning. Cold steel has 18" seax and bowie machetes as seconds- $8 and $10. A LOT of us crafty types use these to make our camp knives and the like. They are great steel, even i...

Cold steel has 18" seax and bowie machetes as seconds- $8 and $10. A LOT of us crafty types use these to make our camp knives and the like. They are great steel, even if these ones are warped a bit (along the flats) they are a great deal... http://www.ltspecpro.com/Product/97SA18S2/18_SAX_MACHE...

Wow! A LOT of different but good points here! A thought I have on the cutlass thing- I am torn, myself between different blades for this "build" of Ranger. I live in the desert- Reno, NV- so I thought it might be interesting to see what a Ranger from out this way- say from the areas around...

Re: Ranger Duster?

Welcome to the forum! I was sort of "meh" about his duster, but having done the outdoorsy thing in period gear- I can really see where it would be of benefit. It's not really "armor", as that sort of soft hide cuts easily- but it IS great on abrasion and windproofing. That said- ...
