Re: Possibilities...

I would love to be able to fit this into my schedule, but with a first grader and third grader, it's unlikely. I have family in both North Carolina and South Carolina I would be able to visit on the way there or back. I'd also love to host something Rangers at the Dragons Wood Inn this fall or winte...

Thanks.
So cool, right? Etsy, of course! It sold out last November, but perhaps you could contact the owner and commission another.
I got in touch with the Etsy shop owner and commissioned one for this coming fall. Thanks!

Re: The pronunciation of Smaug

I think I've read that Smaug is related to something from Welsh, which is interesting, because the Polish word for dragon is 'smok.'

Re: Treasures in the mountains! Coin-caches.

Just so you know... I went back out a couple weeks ago... almost a year after placing the cache... and it was still there. So I went ahead and recovered it. Apparently $400 worth of coins was not enough for anybody to bother going to look for it, even with explicitly precise directions. So... I'll ...

Re: Treasures in the mountains! Coin-caches.

BRILLIANT. You, sir, are an adventurer's best friend! So... just wondering if anybody has gone up there to look for this? There is another one in the Ruby Range in NE Nevada. I plan to go out that way again this summer, and if they are not found by then, I plan to retrieve them myself and re-cache ...

Re: What's everyone been up to lately?

Around the Inn, we've got two pear trees and two apple trees. Off to the side of the inn, three more apple trees. Along the path between the old and new houses, two peach, two plum, an apricot, a chestnut, and three cherry trees. Hoping for lots of fruit when I retire. So far, the western plot only ...

Re: What's everyone been up to lately?

The garden by the Inn itself is in two parts- one on the south side of the building, the other on the western side. I've been trying to make to western side into an herb garden, but the cucumbers and tomatoes have done so well in that section the past few years, I've still got it mixed. I still need...

Re: What's everyone been up to lately?

The garden has two areas: the rich alluvial soil by the old house, and what we call 'the parking lot.' It's the area smoothed out for the septic tank of the new build, and then flattened into place. Our peppers and pumpkins did well there last year, so we tried it again. There's also a lamb's ear th...

Re: What's everyone been up to lately?

School for my kids ended last Thursday, so my calendar is just opening up. Most of my stuff has had to do with gardening at the Dragons Wood Inn. My Chinese mother-in-law showed me the versatility of the garden hoe. I put an edge on one and scraped clean the weeds that had sprung up, tilled some soi...

Re: Amazon Series

I'd like to remain hopeful, but I suspect we're going to get a series about an angsty teen model who fights with the notion of his possible destiny as a kind. Aragorn will have a man-bun and he and his crew of high-cheekboned teen model Elf friends (and a belching, farting comedic relief Dwarf buddy...

Re: found this floating around on FB

Reminds me of an episode of "Frasier." Frasier's son is having his Bar Mitzvah. The son is in a competition with a friend who had a big deal Bar Mitzvah. Frasier wants to impress the congregation, so he asks a co-worker to translate his speech into Hebrew. But Frasier had done something to...
