The Unbeaten Path Waits...

It's been a long hard winter here in Wisconsin. Not only have the temps reached -30 countless times, I was busy every weekend with work and job hunting resulting in me not winter camping for the first time in 4 or 5 years. But now the clutches of winter are lessening, I'm done with college and it's ...

Re: army blanket cloak

I've made three cloaks where I took 2 army blankets and put them next to each other the long ways and cut a half circle and sewed them together. This worked good but I felt like there may have been a lot of waste. However I'm thinking of trying a different way which would result in less material and...

I have a sister who lives in Oshkosh. Not too far from you. Ever been to the experimental air show there?

Re: How to make char cloth

When I clean my guns with cotton clothes i take the ones that aren't too dirty or oily and put them in an old Altoids tin. Once that I full i just put the tin in a small fire and let it sit there till it stop smoking then its done.

Re: Scenario - January 2014

I would create short false trails, that hopefully would fool the dogs, just for a brief period of time, and I would keep a look out for places where I could make a short stand. This would take place over several places. My number one priority with these advantage points and false trails is to neutra...

Re: Cold weather gear

I've winter camped in weather like this in the past. I've hiked with just long underwear a wool flannel nylon zip off pants a hat and gloves while hiking. Sometimes I would wear a wool cloak also. Once I hit camp I would usually put on a down jacket and snow pants If it's windy. The temps on my last...

Re: Food to pack

Yep you have the right idea. I just use an old metal coffee can, a small one not those big ones. Its the perfect size for me. I carry my food and coffee in it. I usually carry a little oatmeal in case i want a hot breakfast. For dinner I have a mix of white rice, wild rice, Bulgar wheat, and dried m...

Re: Fresh Dunadan Looking for Assistance and to Say Hello

When i first got into rangerism it was about a year ago and a couple of buddies and i wanted to go camping with just some cloaks and a bedroll slung over our back. It was a gr...
