Re: Hobbit woodworking tools

There's a site that sells vintage and antique tools, the fella that owns it is also a luthier and loves his old tools quite a bit, he jokes that part of the reason he even has the tool shop is to feed his own vintage tool addiction. I'll post a link here, in case folks want it, he's got quite the se...

Re: Dwarven standards of beauty

I think it might also be a matter of Gimli recognizing in Galadriel the craftsperson that she is, not only is she beautiful in a conventional sense, but her craft is one of beauty as well and Gimli would've recognized her hand in helping to craft and maintain Lothlorien. Also, she's one of the few e...

Re: Morgul Blade.

Perhaps it was something similar to a sword breaker in design, single edged with a dagger hilt, and spines or notches along the back to break off in a wound, as it were. Then again, if it was something corrupted when the Nine fell, perhaps it was originally some sort of surgical type blade, similar ...

Re: Member Map

I didn't know this was a thing, and have added myself to the map. Seems I'm the only one of us out here in Kansas, not that it's a bad thing. I just don't have the mobility I used to these days so getting around isn't going to be quite as easy as it was.

Re: New blade from one of our very own.

I like it! What's the specs on it? Blade is 1095 HCS, guard and pommel are mild steel, handle is desert ironwood with brass spacers. As I've said previously, Eric's work is phenomenal and outstanding. I think with this piece he's gone above and beyond what I could have expected, and I am more than ...

Re: The Ceresilk tarp

I wonder if a piece of oiled leather around the rings that's stitched and riveted through the silk would work as well. Rivets would exist in situ, as they're used in the making of armor, and for making other metal goods as well, so it's a plausible design...hmmm...*goes to make plans*

no, I gave some broad, general input, but this is all his design and idea.

New blade from one of our very own.

So, I finally got these pictures resized to fit the forum. It's taken a while. This is a piece from our very own Eric C. and I couldn't be happier with it. She's light, balanced, and moves well in the hand, the grip fits perfectly in my rather large mitts. I am more than well pleased with her, and h...

Re: Vendor List - Best Places to Get Materials and Accouterments

Steel Mastery has clothing, armor and gambesons that would be appropriate, reasonable prices and even DIY kits for those who are a bit craftier. Their brigandines are quite historically accurate and appear to be well made, and I plan on saving up for one in the future, because armor is useful, even ...

Re: My first cloak, and a question (pic heavy)

I recall seeing something somewhere talking about Dwarven Bear Cavalry, perhaps I was mistaken though. Your kit is coming along quite well, wish I could say the same for mine. *laughs* as for the shiny buckle, there's a fair few folks on etsy that have lovely buckles, or there's the route of getting...

it's not too terribly complex, if I had the materials I could knock it out in maybe two days, so it's not terribly difficult, just gotta have the material *laughs*

Re: Bracer build from youtube

while that's true, I was thinking more from the dwarven lines that he's going for that metal would perhaps be a better choice since it would fit in with how we perceive dwarves as a whole.

Bracer build from youtube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEqofmYyrz0 fella calls it dwarven, but I dunno, it looks good but there's some bits that I might have done differently, like maybe stitching the fur in place and not just using contact cement, and possibly I would've contacted someone to get the bits he did with rub ...
