Re: Penobscot bow build

Today was mostly a sanding day. Rather than talking a bunch of pictures of me sanding then sanding some more, then a bit more sanding. I just took pictures of it at the end, well the end of today. I still plan on doing more sanding, and shaping. This was just to get the general shape and sanding don...

Re: Penobscot bow build

Well today was all about sanding and gluing. Sanded down the helper bow's handle section to round the edges a bit. http://s25.postimg.org/rsuefixov/sanding_down_the_edges_of_the_helper_bow.jpg Also rough sanded the nock overlays on the helper bow http://s25.postimg.org/ugf9c51cf/sanded_down_the_nock...

Re: 2015 Official MERF Photo Contest

Hmm, the theme gives me an excuse to possibly get something I have been wanting but isn't the most practical item. While not really justifying the $175 cost, it just might be enough to rationalize it for me.

Re: Review: "Elfin" Rattan Recurve by Bows of the Risen Son

Oh it should also be mentioned, if your shooting off the knuckle, or have a very small cut out window. Brace height will effect the spine of your arrow. If you have a low brace height, you will need a lower spine to achieve the archer's paradox to bend the arrow around the bow. But taller your brace...

Re: Penobscot bow build

Getting closer to the end Time to do a little work on the helper bow, which had been kinda getting left out except being used to top the main bow in the tillering stick so I could clamp it upside down to scrap. Laying out the outer handle slab and the nock overlays on the helper bow http://s25.posti...

Glad you guys liked it, hope it brought some nice smiles to your days.

I don't know about you, but I can't see an orc now without thinking "when are they going to start dancing"

Re: Penobscot bow build

On this episode of the Penobscot bow build, I sanded down the Wenge and Zebrawood handle additions http://s25.postimg.org/8ulsi5udr/sanding_down_the_ends.jpg http://s25.postimg.org/m6ezrcxe7/ends_sanded_down.jpg here are some dry fits to show placement http://s25.postimg.org/vcxaen2mn/dry_fit_handle...

Re: Review: "Elfin" Rattan Recurve by Bows of the Risen Son

A big part of brace height is it needs to be enough to give room for the fletching. If you have 5" feathers, then from the tip of your arrow nock to the front of the feather is going to be over 6", somewhere around 6 1/4 to 6 1/2. Thus you get the typical average of 6 1/2" to 7" ...

Re: Penobscot bow build

More bow building. Unwrapped and unclamped the Wenge and Zebrawood I did yesterday. Plenty of extra glue on the pieces. So I scrapped off the excess then sanded off what scraping couldn't get. http://s25.postimg.org/pknzg0e1b/scraping_glue_off.jpg I went ahead and got more Wenge to add to the center...

Penobscot bow build

So a little history. Cable-backed bow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable-backed_bow One variety of cable-backed bow is the Penobscot bow or Wabenaki bow, invented by Frank Loring (Chief Big Thunder) about 1900.[1] It consists of a small bow attached by cables on the back of a larger main bow. Being ...

Re: Discount Arrows

Not sure if you're still looking Daerir, but I figure I could add another link to this thread. I just received a set of twelve arrows with broadhead tips and self nocks from a guy on etsy for $70. He sells a multitude of bows and arrows and I am thinking about ordering a set of field tipped arrows ...

Re: Arg brendan of FableBlades has done it again! Aduial

I was looking through some of the pictures they have of the other weapons on the Fable Blades site, and noticed some of the products had been taken down, but pictures still exist on Fable Blades's facebook page. Ooops, I guess it would help if I looked through the different categories of the websit...

Re: Arg brendan of FableBlades has done it again! Aduial

FableBlades really does bring artistry and craft to a whole new level, almost incomprehensible to the likes of me. Though I am an advocate of Darksword as well. Both good companies in my opinion, they supply sturdy blades to grasping hands. :) Take a close look at that suspension system. http://www...

Re: Arg brendan of FableBlades has done it again! Aduial

The difference, Eothain, being that Brendan at Fable had been doing things like that since he started and the Darksword example that you shared is newer. The pommel style is new, but he's been doing carved grips since the beginning. Also, the person that collaborated with Brendan wanted that shape....
