Best weight to energy food I have discovered is fruitcake. Easy to pack and consume on the trail. Learn to make waxed linen to wrap stuff like cheese and sausage

Re: Waterproofing Leather?

If you can find it Original Australian Leather Seal is the best stuff I've ever used. It's a beeswax/eucalyptus oil concoction.

Re: New Water Bottle

When I make bottles, I use an air compressor rather than packing it with sand. It blows the sides out and dries it in the same process. Speeds up the work.

Re: On shield shapes...

A knight I once knew had all his squires learn to use the round shield before any other shape. Said knight was known for a wrap-around butt shot. Once a squire could successfully defend against getting spanked consistently, he'd let them use shapes.

Re: How To Make Pemmican Like The Native Americans

I gave up on pemmican cuz it basically tastes nasty now matter how you make it. My go-to trail food is fruitcake. It's high calorie, packs easy and I for one like the taste.

I've made many pairs of boots. Most of the are a modification of the Persian Khuff. It's an easy one to replicate the pattern for.
