I agree with Manveruon, I'd choose a medium to heavy wool, but probably look for something slightly boiled or very tightly woven to better keep out the wind/rain

This question isn't related to middle earth so I'm being naughty, but I have a large piece of plaid wool with dark grey on a white background, I would like it to be dark grey on a moss-green background all the research I've done into dyeing wool says I have to boil the dye bath, the fabric is so hug...
