That is a fantastic resource! Thanks!Odigan wrote:I recently got five pounds of very nice flint and chert from GoKnapping.com, which was the least costly with shipping I found (for me).
They also have a one pound option if you don't think you need to supply a small village.

Re: 3rd Age Dunedain Ranger - Complete Functional Kit Breakdown
Man, I am in love with this kit! It looks like the real deal. You could be dropped in Mirkwood and get by fine with this set up.
Great job and thanks for the example!

Re: good flint source?
Hey all! Just an update. I was out for a hike and brought my steel striker to test rocks. Quartz can be found, so thats what I was looking for. No luck. I had just about given up when I spied a flat-ish, angular, grey-tan rock about the size of my palm. I expected it to crumble when I hit it , but I...

Re: Dwarven Ferrocerium???
This is incredible! I love how in depth you all get into investigating the question. The theoretical world building is AMAZING!! Follow up,: did I put this in the right section of the forum? Im more investigating whats possible in Middle Earth than what I specifically plan on putting in my kit. Sinc...

Re: Dwarven Ferrocerium???
Elleth, You're the lore master. I'll defer to your judgement.
What about magnesium? That would also make a fire a lot easier to achieve. Do you think dwarves would reasonably find that?
And yes, while flint and steel is fun, I think I'll miss the one strike fire of my ferro rod. You got me

Dwarven Ferrocerium???
I remember reading that dwarves are particularly good at starting fires and I just read that cerium is not an uncommon metal if delved for. Considering how secretive dwarves are, it does not seem impossible they would have come across the 30% Iron/ 70% cerium recipe and kept it under wraps from the ...

good flint source?
Hey Rangers, I just bought a steel striker which came with 3 pieces of flint about the size of a quarter each. Tiny. I might make arrow heads with them. Where do you go when you want a beefy piece of flint( Or equivalent stone)? I'm in Los Angeles, if that matters. Web sites are welcome also! Thanks,
