Ranger camp axe blade cover
Having a camp axe is great, but trying to carry it on my person without cutting or slicing myself open while in the bush is a risk I'm not willing to take, so I decided to make a blade cover out of leather, dyed and tooled with the same Numenorian/Gondorian designs as the camp axe handle sleeves. He...

Re: Ranger camp axe project
Some beauty shots of the axe, with my by-knife. The wood-burned Tengwar handle inscription are my initials, "RHD".

Ranger camp axe project
What good is a Ranger, if he doesn't have the necessary tools or equipment for survival in the wild? I wouldn't want to be on a trek with him, that's for sure. With that question in mind, I decided that I should probably carry a small camp axe in my kit, as I don't really want to drive shelter stake...

Re: Sharpening stone and holster build
Thanks for the positive comments and the constructive feedback, everyone!
Yeah, my logic was more along the lines of a 'last-ditch' needs factor, where at some point one might be faced with having been left with only the bare minimum of equipment for survival.

Ranger sharpening stone and holster build
I figured that it was about time that I created something new for my Ranger accoutrement belt, and in this case, a sharpening stone for my sword, and other various edged implements. I know that there has been a lot of discussion among other Rangers about Aragorn carrying one in The Lord of the Rings...

Re: Review: "Elfin" Rattan Recurve by Bows of the Risen Son
It's not a high-performance piece. I don't use it anymore, as I'm much happier with the Yew bows I've been making myself, but I still have it and it's still functional. It did take a fair bit of set, but it seemed to hit a limit. For the price and to get something that LOOKS right, it's a great opt...

Re: Review: "Elfin" Rattan Recurve by Bows of the Risen Son
Yes, I know this is a necro-post from a long-dead thread, but I didn't want to start a new thread if I can get answers to my questions. This is for Greg: I'm considering having Bows of the Risen Son build my a custom rattan selfbow based on the Aragorn bow dimensions and profiles from the PJ movies,...

Re: Non-fantasy rangers, other hobbies?
I have done a lot of WW2 field tacticals... total immersion events for a couple of days at a time, with my USGI gear and Thompson SMG.
It's fun... plus, the threat/thrill of getting shot (with blanks) by the Wehrmacht while on patrol is always a plus.

Love the series... been watching them each time one is posted.
Like I said on Facebook... I like the fact that there's no talking being done; it's refreshing to see 'just the facts', with no narrative included.
