Did the Men of Dale have a cavalry?

Greetings my friends, I am once again returning to the roots of my interest in the Bardings (after a long time developing a typical ranger kit). The persona I am developing is based during the reign of King Bain, son of Bard the Dragonslayer, up into the War of the North. To be completely honest, the...

Re: Looking to have my Kit Critiqued

Originally, it was just a design style I liked, but as I continued experimenting with my other tunic which was flat, I learned that the point is a nice way to get more length and more leg movement without having to cut a vent anywhere. I wanted this to be a very warm garment, and I felt having vents...

Re: Looking to have my Kit Critiqued

Update: Here is the new green tunic I had made. I originally wanted it to be longer, but that might have been impractical. Very curious how people think this style works for a Barding (or not). I've added it to the original post as well, in case other new people want kit ideas. You might notice, tha...

Re: Looking to have my kit critiqued part 2

I haven't held any of their older blades, but I can attest that the sword I got from them is good quality especially for the price (aside from the sharpening, needs work). Only about 2 pounds maybe 2.2. There's a pretty heavy profile taper for halfswording thrusts, but the balance of the weapon acco...

Very new, just bought it this past March. Hasn't seen combat, I've only been able to swing it around by myself.

Re: Looking to have my Kit Critiqued

Likewise the large diamond-fronted hem on the hood reads to my eye as more northern/norse/early period while the somewhat pointed tunic hem reads as more Gondorian/later period. I think I'd be inclined to push farther in one direction or the other, depending on where you see the persona going. (thi...

Re: Looking to have my kit critiqued part 2

We know the Lake-men used long swords, so this sword would fit! Can you point me in the direction of the sources for this? I'd love to read. Your post on Lakemen/barding clothing was also a fascinating read, thanks so much! I was actually afraid that they didn't use longswords, but this is great ne...

Re: Looking to have my kit critiqued part 2

I'd heard that too, but upon further research, I decided a lot was actually negative hype from competitors. They also revamped their tang construction in recent years to make consumers feel more confident in the blades. Norse style 2 handed swords are beautiful though, saw some pics in other sword r...

Looking to have my kit critiqued part 2

If you came from my soft kit post, thanks for helping me out! If you just found this, welcome, I am looking for things people think can be improved upon, added, taken away, etc from my hard kit. There are some things I already know I still need like fire kit, first aid, sewing, a spoon (I am carving...

Looking to have my Kit Critiqued

Tonight is my night off, as such, I have dressed in my garb, because that is the way for me. I figured it was as good a time as any to get some photos (I've been told we like photos here. I certainly do!) of what I have already, to see what people think can be improved, added, discarded, etc. I took...

Re: A Question for Loremasters

I like the Northern, Norse, origin, everything in my kit aside from my sword which is an Oakeshott type 14 bastard sword, I think would fit a Barding. Pics to come of my soft kit. Perhaps that will greatly affect my chosen persona for sure. I do have a tunic in commission which might be more Dunedai...

A Question for Loremasters

Greetings again, Working on posts to get feedback on kit, but for now I have a query, the answers of which may help me decide on my persona. Is there mention of Rangers (not Dunedain specifically) as part of the population of Laketown/Dale/Erebor? What I have in mind is a young man growing up in the...

Re: Mae Govannen! New guy here

Taurinor, Thank you for the site recommendations! I enjoy hiking abr damping, but my bushcraft and survival experience is limited to watching videos or reading articles. If at some point in the future you plan to go with a group of folks, either just on a day trip or perhaps an overnight trip, what ...

Mae Govannen! New guy here

Greetings! Call me Beryndor for now, but I'm sure as I explore, that may change. Pardon if it is rude to not introduce my true name, though I come from the Knight Realms forums, where real world info wasn't necessarily shared. I discovered the Middle Earth Ranger Handbook late last week and in very ...
