Warriors of Middle Earth, LARP event in Scotland, 21st-23rd June 2024
https://www.warriorsofmiddleearth.com/ I just saw this on Reddit and I'm curious if anyone here has any knowledge of it. I've got no affiliation with them, but seems right up our alley. From the post I saw. Warriors of Middle-Earth WOME is a live action roleplay inspired by the events of The Lord of...

Re: Anyone cook a goose over their fire?
As Barandir said, the fat is liquid gold. Don't waste it. Straight in the ashes is going to loose all that. Best method will be dutch oven with a roasting rack. Something to keep it lifted out of the fat. You want the fat to drip away (and then baste with it) but you don't want the bottom of your bi...

A good point on the tools. I suppose I didn't really think too much about it because it's just a cheap sewing kit from amazon. Just some punches, needle, thread, and an exacto knife are all you really need.

Total Eclipse of April 8th, 2024
On the 8th of April, in the year 2024 (by Shire reckoning), the heavens shall align. Ithil shall cross Anor and a great darkness shall sweep across the land. Rangers, shall you answer the call and gather? In 2017 I had the great fortune to stand within the Path of Totality for the Great American Sol...

He makes an amazing point (with references as well!). We see so much beautiful carving and leatherwork here, but that wouldn't always be the case. It certainly makes since for a few pieces, especially if it is something meant to signify rank or station. You might imagine that a fine ranger's long sw...

Leather Pouches from scraps. Video Tutorial.
This is my first DIY video for making ranger gear. Here you'll see how to make a leather pouch from random scraps of leather. I get a $5 bag of scraps from Tandy Leather and show you the whole process. These scrap pouches are great, cheap beginner projects, especially good for anyone just starting o...

Dragon Con 2023
Sound off, any rangers who will be attending. I'd love to meet up with fellow rangers, perhaps sit down for a pipe and chat. Friday night is typically the "Evening at Bree" party. It can be quite crowded. I'll be in my ranger gear at least one day, likely Saturday. Look for me, and any Sou...

...plans to upgrade away from some of the more modern looking cooking gear? It kinda broke the immersion for me a little bit when I saw the grill in particular. I understand. I'm working on upgrades, but "period" cook gear light enough for trekking seems to be one of the hardest things to...

Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures
Thanks everyone for the kind words on my first 2 videos. Here's the 3rd, from the Southeast Rangers trip to Dockery Lake in May. Little different style with this one. No speaking, just music and nature sounds. Let me know what style you prefer, narration or quiet. I'm all caught up on trek videos fo...

Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures
Time to finally share the Part 1 of the video of my first Ranger adventure. This will be the first video of my new series, Ranger Rations, presented by The Gluttonous Geek. I am joining my wife's channel with my own cooking adventures, far outside the kitchen. A while ago, I had an idea to explore t...

The blade is a Ronin Katana Medieval Saber; not necessarily what most think of as a Ranger blade, but still one of my favorites. You got me looking at Ronin Katana at the right time. Their annual Scratch and Dent sale is going on. I got an Italian Hand and a Half for $230! I'd love to see the full ...
