Re: Home made oilcloth and it's kin

Yeah. I've never had sweating issues, but in warmer climates, some folks do. I think while beeswax is preferable in cold climate for elasticity, the paraffin doesn't sweat as much. But the linseed is a solid bet.

Re: Home made oilcloth and it's kin

I've always made oilcloth from paraffin or bee's wax and linseed. obviously fire hazard as well. Some folks think of it as wax courbouli, but that is usually without the linseed, and is not courbouli ;) Ratio is fairly simple: more paraffin for stiff things (leather quivers, ground cloths, tents), l...

I've held a few, but it's been a LONG time. The one in your photo even LOOKS weighty. Let us know if you get it and how it feels.

Re: Speed Shooting revisited

De ja vu. we had this chat 2 years ago. Haha. Impressive speed, but at half draw, like many of you said, it's not 'top speed' at 'top capacity' of the weapon. As a matter of personal perspective... A lot of you know already, but I do horseback archery demonstrations in Oregon and Washington. I don't...

Good to be back, even if I am a busy ranger as always. I'll try and stay more active as we near the end of the world.

Re: Metalsmith | General Craftsman

Blades page finally sorted out. Only three knives missing, which should be up there in a week at most.

Re: Metalsmith | General Craftsman

I could probably manage that. I have a small set of period tools I use for fun, but most of my occupational work is with foredom tool bits. Burs, cut-bits, drill bits, moors disks, etc. etc. If you're looking for some big, clean, ready to go bone to give it a shot, cow-bone sold at pet stores is dry...

Sounds good. Well if you decide to have Tony make you up the handles, he's usually damn fast about it. He also has a knack for finding some effing amazing arrow shaft wood and getting them straight and clean. Wild harvest magician when it comes to that stuff.

Re: dark, 21 inch, teardrop cross section, axe handles

A month late and probably past the point of need, but my buddy has been wood working, mainly bowyering, for a while now, he'd probably do you up some handles for a really good deal.

Metalsmith | General Craftsman

Well, I was here a long long time ago, and went, and came, and went. I suppose I am the fringy ranger that can't sit still. Lot has happened since then, including 5 months in europe, and 9 months wilderness survival and immersion training. But here I am! I am a professional in the fields of Jewelry ...

Re: Ranger's Apprentice Style Saxe Knife and Throwing Knife

Sorry for the double post. Catching up as best I can. As a gentle affirmative, Peter is right, that there is a fair bit more to it than that, and while it isn't necessarily hard to do, there are quite a few steps that you need to be aware of, that are less obvious. I met a guy recently that makes ni...

While I am aware that this is an old thread, if you haven't found a knife maker yet, I'm here! Hah.

Re: Ranger's Apprentice Style Saxe Knife and Throwing Knife

I'm alive! I realize I haven't been on for a long long long while, and that I am sure a million things have changed. With that said, I am a professional knife maker, and I haven't had time to sift through this thread to find the design intended, but I can probably make it, possibly even inexpensive ...

Re: Seax Review.

You want the goldne rule applied to you, so here it goes. You must have some sort of mental deficiency to have construed all of that from a simple "hey, actually, check this out". I'm not going to argue with you because by your logic I can call my english long sword a "katana". Y...
