Re: Numenorean design motifs
My thought was to get away from the standard Tree (too Gondorian) and Star (already well represented). Amen. Another thing to remember is that the White Tree was reserved for the tower guard, it wasn't everywhere. And the Dunedain star? We don't know what it represented. But it's entirely likely it...

Re: Icelandic wool blankets, right from our farm!
I’d be in, but won’t have disposable money for the foreseeable future. Put me at the back of the line?

Re: Numenorean design motifs
I like both. I prefer the latter for a couple reasons. 1. the simpler design is more elegant. 2. *We have very little evidence that Numenorean art used joined spirals. (Two or more spirals that come together). joined.jpg We have evidence of branching spirals (spiral vine patterns) branched spiral.pn...

Re: Middle Earth brewing
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_ale https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campaign_for_Real_Ale Ok, this seems to be a marketing term that is new to me. Its a trademark for “real ale” as any ale made with premodern brewing and serving methods, with local (non-exotic) ingredients. Also by the name, (I di...

Dwarven standards of beauty
So, i don’t get it. Dwarven women are so alike in appearance to the men, that outsiders can’t tell them apart. It seems fair to assume that dwarves would then have very different standards of beauty than men or elves. So what does Gimli see in Galadriel? Yes, she is conventionally beautiful, but I d...

So how are you making them/getting them made; and out of what material?

Dunedain Puuko WIP
Over on Discord, the subject of Puukos came up. So I posted this WIP I teased in my Bree Knife set. Since the cat's out of the bag I figured I'd do a writeup here. So this was the Puuko that Farodel gave me back in the 2016 Yule Gift Exchange It was my EDC for about 3 years, and then it disappeared....

Re: Breeish Knife set
It looks really great, but I don't understand the shape of the longer knife. Can somebody explain why it's shaped like that? I don't think anyone really knows. Some people interpret it as a sharpened back that has been sharpened until it is ground down. You want strange shapes in history, check out...

Re: Breelander Braces (Suspenders)
Beautiful work! We have come so far as a community, to be discussing the minute of Breelanders' decorative uses of alphabets on a pair of Braces now after over a decade ago having several different threads on "What bow should I get?" What a world we're living in! Yes, there was a time whe...

Re: Breelander Braces (Suspenders)
Hunh - I'd completely forgotten. We talked over the question before, and Udwin found what looks like a pretty solid answer in HoME! https://middleearthrangers.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3679 And I'm sorry to bring up a roadbump... if you're reworking them for Caedmon, perhaps the ones you have can s...

Re: Breeish Knife set
Awesome work! What's next?! Well, I have a large Dunedain fighting knife based on an irish scian with a highly decorated scabbard, a rebuild of the puuko that Farodel gave me (because my teen left it in fishing tackle box over winter), several bags and pouches, a soapstone pump drill, an antler dun...

Re: Breelander Braces (Suspenders)
That is just exquisite ... is that leather theowl's work? are the buckles yours? I think tablet weaving would be amazing with that. How fun! No, the leather's all mine. The buckles are some I had lying around. I don't really have a sense of bree-ish work. I've been so focused on interpret...

Re: Breelander Braces (Suspenders)
I fail to see how any critique could be leveled, they are beautiful. The only possible comment I have would be that given the fine leatherwork a simple hempen strap may not match. They certainly look like something a well to do gentle-hobbit would wear and so perhaps some colour or a finer fabric m...
