Re: Fantastic wild plant identification channel!

an older post, but worth replying to:

I taught at a foraging event with Adam last spring: he's a super cool guy.

If you're especially interested in medicinal uses of plants, I have a slew of videos here:

small natural sharpening stone

Hey... looking for a small, NATURAL sharpening stone to be easily carried for knife sharpening. Kinda like a scythe sharpening stone... https://scythesupply.com/images/equipment/StoneBresenger.jpg but smaller (I already have one of these and they're a bit bigger than I want to carry). Seems like all...

Re: Canoe Considerations

there might be, but no one I know. I'd love one if I did more lake paddling, but I mostly frequent rivers, and they're more narrow and windy where I put in. I've hung out with Jim Miller while he was making a birchbark canoe, and it was amazing. he said they're very sturdy, and that he's even bottom...

Re: Canoe Considerations

hey wow! I'm not posting about plants... I've been canoeing since I was a wee one, and am rather rabid about it. I can't get into canoe building (though there's a guy here in Michigan who makes incredible birch bark canoes: http://www.mlive.com/news/saginaw/index.ssf/2008/05/craftsman_creates_authen...

herbal first aid course...

My friend 7Song is an herbalist who specializes in first aid in wilderness situations (he's run first aid at the Rainbow Gatherings for decades). He's an excellent clinical herbalist (one of the very good ones in the US) and just excels in first aid; he's not saying "use yarrow to stop bleeding...

Re: MEDICAL KITS

so, some thoughts, based on experience (I'm a professional practicing herbalist): A#1 thing you need is *knowledge*. If you're carrying around a med-kit as a part of a costume, then this is less important, but if you're going to use it, you really need to know your shit. As an example, when to apply...

Re: On pipe-weed in Wilderland (long and scholarly warning!)

I really think this is a pretty easy case to make. 1.) existance of the plant in the area not necessary. Plants were the oldest and among the most valuable articles of trade in all cultures on the planet, and travelled immense distances. Tobacco (nicotiana rustica or N tabacum, the common smoking to...

Re: Pipe Repair?

this might be a super easy fix: ` Take the pipe to you're local hardware store. ` Find a screw or bolt that thread into the inner hole in the broken tenon. So, you want the shaft about the same diameter as the whole, and the threads enough to cut into and grab the broken piece. ` Use pliers, a vice ...
