Re: WMA / HEMA guys: how does this look to you?

Huh. That's interesting. I agree, it definitely looks strange to my eye - much more like later-period sword-and-buckler/cut-and-thrust fighting than what I think of as High Medieval arming-sword-and-shield. But this is also a one-on-one duel as opposed to fully armored military combat, so that prob...

Re: WMA / HEMA guys: how does this look to you?

Its far more accurate than most of the stuff I've seen come out of the SCA. Its supported by research and physical experimentation as well. Not that the SCA doesn't make good fighters. One of the best fencers in my group is from the SCA, just that their ruleset doesn't allow for a lot of the histori...

Re: Scabbard Core Services

How complete are we talking, and what kind of detail? As for a yes or no...I'm not Christian Fletcher. ...BUT. Bring it on! Well, we'd be talking basic leather covered scabbard, an integrated belt, and maybe a u shaped Chape? Nothing fancy, more utilitarian than anything. I also don't really have a...

So, since they'll be no sword and buckler classes, I'd like to offer to anyone interested, the primer video we use in my class. If you'd like it, shoot me a PM. I also have some longsword stuff as well.

Re: How To Find a Good HEMA Group?

I If you're going to advertise your school to newcomers, stress the historical accuracy of your methods, and build them up into a live contact scenario, as Ursus has described his training process. Don't entice newcomers with words like "Full force, full contact". That will attract the en...

Re: 2016 Ranger HEMA classes and poll

This will be interesting. I'm looking forward to reading this thread. For anyone in the NY metro area, or just passing through, that'd like to train for a day, my group is rather large now and we'll most likely be opening a trick and mortar school in the very near future. You're all welcome to come ...

Re: long sword exercises

well every strike in a film has a basis in actual form but when I'm hired I'm an employee and you don't want to be telling a production company what you want to see, they may ask, they may give you tons of room but ultimately 'movie cool' really depends on each person, I loved the fight scenes in T...

Re: long sword exercises

There really isn't a place for it in anything but a film, and most of us would appreciate seeing it fade out of hollywood...but it's not going to happen. You're right; it does open you up to an easy counter, as well as provide way too many opportunities for error on the part of the user; losing the...

Very nice lines man, you have a great eye. I like the overall look of the sword. Its really a great result for your first (first right?) effort. Now all you'd have to do is learn bronze casting and you'd be dangerous.
