Re: Almost perfect ranger armor
I generally dislike this sort of leather breastplates as they usually are a bit on the exaggerating fantasy side, for my taste at least, but this one is pretty awesome! It doesn't seem to restrict movement much either so I don't think it would be a bad choise for a ranger. Bit expensive for me thoug...

Re: Weapon Descriptions of Middle-earth
Would those be Feanorian characters?the flowing characters of Numenor glinted like fire upon the blade.
In Numenor Quenya was used on all official documents and king naming but I can't recall if they used tengwar or some sort of runes for the writing
Great topic and research Mirimaran!

I'm with Gareth on this. I'm not much into exotics, other than ebony, especially toxic ones!

I'm pretty much just like you in this one Greg (differentiating only on the fact that I've actually redrawn some Tolkien maps). The idea of making a map of my area has always intrigued me and my only problem was, and is, that I unfortunatelly don't have a particular area. All my excersions are on di...

Was ringmail ever used in history? It's not a very important question since our database is Tolkien's imagination, but it would be a measure of the armour's efficiency something I'm not very confident about. Perhaps a courbuilli coat of plates? Light armour and rather strong for it's weight. I'm not...

I can't wait for that re-vamp, I've gone through your site dozens of times and I'm sure you'll make it even better! I hope all goes well and you return safe. I'd like to make a small statement though. I realise you (not just Andy) come from a nation whose interests and goals you are of course expect...

Quills were most certainly used in Middle Earth since the tengwar alphabet is made to be written with a dip pen (such as a quill), but I don't remember any particular quote of a quill or other type of pen being used in the books :? Inkwells could be made of glass, clay or even horn. The obvious way ...
I have no pair of boots right now, just some simple low mocasines, but I'm thinking of buying a pair of custom boots this summer. There's an island in Greece, Crete, where there are some shoemakers left who actually make wonderful knee-high boots entirely by hand. The design is traditional of the 18...

Camping in the wild
From what I've seen from Andy's pics camping is allowed (as is the lighting of fire) in public places, like forests, in Germany. Here in Greece however there is a law (?.2160/93) which forbids both camping outside specified PRIVATE camping sites and the lighting of fires throughout the Greek territo...
