For beginning armorers, TOMAR recommends making spaulders: cutting, finishing, light dishing, rolling, making holes, and strapping. Made a pair last year.
For other ideas: brass wire jewelry or cloak clasps, tin box, or throwing stars

I like: Raymond's Quiet Press. Nice period stuff and varied time periods.
Also, look into Historic Enterprises. I'll see if I can scrounge up any other vendors.

Re: Pipe Repair?
My first thought was to try needle-nose pliers and see if you could get any grip to gently remove the broken tenon. Replacement stems are fairly common. A quick search returned this site, which has some good suggestions: drilling the broken tenon halfway, remove the bit from the chuck, then placing ...

Re: The Lookouts comic book.
I was a scout, but not very dedicated in advancing in rank and playing the game. We did a lot of camping, fishing, hiking, but we were the "bad" troop. We always started the snow-ball fight at freeze-outs, chewed (funny no one smoked), swore, firework & BB gun fights, and some minor sc...

Re: Black Watch Ranger Game of Thrones
I happened upon Games of Thrones at a second-hand bookstore and VA Beach for my beach reading. I was hooked. It's my second favorite book series, with LOTR 1st and WOT 3rd. The twist and turns make it exciting. Losing who you thought were important characters adds to the anticipation of reading the ...

Leather Armor
There is a local gent that makes leather SCA armor and I was just drooling over some pieces in his gallery, looking up ideas for my Christmas list. Thought I should share.

Re: Patrol into Rhûn
B. Price in TOMAR uses the leather suspension on the War Kettle, but for his bascinet recommends a heavy fabric, stuffed tube cap with using horsehair. This is then stitched to bottom edge of the helm.
Great pictures. Thanks for posting.

Re: Next Emberverse book due out in 2 weeks.... **RANT***
I agree...love the first trilogy; have read up to The High King of Montival. Looks like I'm done with that series. This is much like Guardians of the Flame by Joel Rosenberg... it just gets so off that it's not fun to read. He seemed to go through a mid-life crisis played out through his novels. Sti...
