Re: knives and other things

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I needed them about now as I tweaked an injured nerve in my shoulder yesterday in the forge. This is getting old. Anyway, I'm willing to let the file knives go for $75.00 shipped CONUS. If there is anything else you would like to know the prices of, just let me kn...

That's a really cool stitch. I may have to practice that one.

Southeastern Spring Ranger Moot

Okay, so a few weeks ago I caused a little bit of a stir on my knifemaking page on Facebook when I posted some pics of the family out in garb at Medoc Mountain State Park, maybe 15 miles from my house. No, there is no mountain there. Anyway, the question I was asked is, "When are we going to ha...

Re: Happy Birthday Eric

happy birthday, eric. Thank you kindly! Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone. It has been a good day. After working the day job this morning, I spent time with family and moved some knives closer to completion for an upcoming fair. Also, I know I have been absent again. I've started studying thr...

Initiate's Blade WIP

Okay, this one is forged from 1095 steel. It has vine pattern file work on the spine, but I didn't get a picture of it. I will try tomorrow. Some stats as they stand now: OAL: ~ 17" Blade length:~ 10 1/4" Blade width: 1 1/4" at the widest point Thickness: 3/16" This blade is curr...

Re: Question for bladesmiths / historians: steel of the Dunedain

I'm still behind on the forums, so I'm just coming across this discussion. As a smith, this topic interests me immensely. For a while now, I have toyed with the idea of trying to study Tolkein's works from the Silmarilian onward to see what I can glean about their metalworking. But I can't find my c...

Re: New helmet WIP

Okay, I think I am the world's worst at saying I will post pics, then never getting around to it. So, here are a couple of progress pics on the helmet: http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae111/E_Cart/Helmet%20WIP/SAM_2015_zpsy4f4h4tz.jpg http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae111/E_Cart/Helmet%20WIP/S...

Re: New helmet WIP

WELL, the problem is that I had everything fitted up nicely so I went ahead and riveted it all together. Now there are some places that I don't like as much. I will try to get some pics up when I get home from work. It may be acceptable, but it wasn't my original vision. BTW Ringulf, keep your eyes ...

Re: New helmet WIP

At long last, I have made some progress on this helmet. I have riveted in the leather panels. I will have pics later today - hopefully. But I have a question. The leather isn't as formed to the helmet shape as I would like. I was wondering about wetting it with hot water and forming it more. But I'm...

Re: Bow poundage for a teen girl

She is using a very low poundage fiberglass recurve at the moment. A 35 pounder may be best for her. There is a dealer on etsy. I can't remember his name right now. I will check it out when I get home. I think his u finish bows have a range of poundage such as 35-40 pounds. That's where I'm planning...
