MERS Fall 2022 Trek Recap

This past week three adventurers again gathered in the wilds of southern Indiana for travel and merriment! The weather was unusually warm, and we all removed extras from our loadouts on departure to lessen our carried weight (which would still prove more than we’d like). On the first day we covered ...

I also "read" these a while back, as the YouTube channel A Great Divorce has recorded audio versions of these and a number of other blog posts.

Yes.
I feel it summarizes the show's habit of mimicry without understanding.

Re: Rings of Power- Your thoughts?

I've found this anvil to be an accurate metaphor for the whole show. Despite being very big, it really has no weight. Poor representation of the source material. Meant to be dramatic but actually funny. Looks like a good place to take a nap. Has holes where none should be. Undeveloped character. Fla...

Re: Summer 2022 available now!

My favorite article though is the reconstruction of Elrond's home... I think it's going to be a few reads before I even understand all the references! The structure as drawn still has a somewhat Romanesque feeling to me, though I'm sure that's my ignorance of the other vernaculars you mention. Very...

Re: How do you choose to wear your arrows?

I was definitely under the assumption that they'd shoot closer than 50 yards frequently. Good information. The bit about how long it takes to close that distance is eye-opening. Thanks! In practice, probably? I'm sure if they knew there was no threat of thrown weapons why not ride right up to them?...

Re: How do you choose to wear your arrows?

Regardless of historical archery records or Lar's historical accuracy (which I am inclined to believe is at least plausible) his techniques can be done with a war weight short-bow or horse-bow Well then he should be demonstrating said techniques with a bow of 80+ lb draw, because across culture and...

Re: How do you choose to wear your arrows?

Mounted archers are the only exception/instance I could think of that truly did combat with bows at what I would call short ranges. Even still, they were loading out of their bow hand. I should have been more clear. I think that even mounted, combat archers wouldn't want to be closing to ranges und...

Re: How do you choose to wear your arrows?

...it is quite likely that Mongolian archery and similar styles through history that make use of shorter, faster and lighter bows lean more towards the possibility of short range combat, but I guess you would still need another weapon because arrows run out The question really is, what do you consi...

Re: On the subject of blankets and shelters

To add to the list of blanket suppliers, this past year I purchased a "heavy blanket for sleeping" from Woolsome, and am really pleased with it.
Mine is a mixed grey, without stripes (they usually have a few plain/solids) and weighs in at 6lbs 6oz. (2.9 kg).

Ok, sorry to be so anti-climatic after such a wait. I don't think we've done a long-ways cut (at least not in a while).
