Re: Starting to Assemble a Dwarven Toolkit

Peter on pack saddle, if planning on using pack saddles over any amount of time and with heavy packs, a well fitting pack saddle is great! Great pack saddles have to be able to form to the horses back or they can cause great pain to the animal. Also pack saddles are not limited to the equine relm, ...

I like the cross brow band a lot. Interested in your interpretation of the dwarven pack saddle.

Re: On the subject of blankets and shelters

Thoroughly enjoyed the article Taurinor posted and it brings to mind this thread from a decade ago: http://www.middleearthrangers.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=12&hilit=way+stations Some great similarities with a few differences. The long hunters main camps are used for only 1/2 the year whi...

Re: Starting to Assemble a Dwarven Toolkit

If you are using a sharpening stone in the field, my advice is to pack a new or non-oiled stone. For simple touch ups I use a hard Arkansas with no lube (either water/saliva or oil). Oil or water provides lubricating properties but this will have an adverse effect on how fast you can sharpen your bl...

Re: Dakota Firehole Experiment Results

Try taking two sticks roughly 30" long and at least 2" in diameter. Whittle 1 end of each down on both sides leaving you two sticks with a flatten spatula like end. Then make a small scoring midway around each stick. Take a thong, cord or shoelace and lash the two sticks together at the sc...
