Re: Is this sword Khazad?

No, that's a copy Viking sword from a burial site. Someone of importance by its decoration. As to whether you see a Dwarvish styling, that's subjective but I say nope. It's too obviously a Viking sword to be construed by anyone who knows blades to be considered a Dwarf sword. If you want something a...

Re: Good enough for the common man

About 20 years ago, I made a leather short sleeved tunic. Not having a lot to go on, I took a cloth duster pattern, made some alterations and went to town. It laced up in the back (1/2 lace up 1/2 pull over). It looked pretty good until I put it on and realized the front chest was WAAAy to large. Ei...

Re: Leather Pouches from scraps. Video Tutorial.

Here's an old post that covers a few leather tool hacks: Being that you are starting with basics, remember not everyone can afford to jump into new hobbies, particularly this one where there are so many crafts and skill sets. I'd recommend some hacks would be useful. For instance for leather work: T...

Re: Antler as a knife handle material

You might want to try some scrimshaw on the antler. File/polish it down to the grip size you like, draw the design in pencil, etch with a fine hobby knife, wipe add ink to the design and then wipe the excess. Once it's dry, put lacquer on it, at least one coat.

Re: Dry goods and other musings

I too enjoy a good fruitcake, but you have to experiment until you either find a good production one or go to the MAJOR expense of making your own. As to the time period it lasts even production fruitcakes will last a good long time. If you buy a cake (loaf shaped) and cut a piece off an end, the ex...

Re: On the planning of outings

At least 3 months. Start with an intro to where and when. You will not get a consensus on the when. Don't offer multiple dates, you will never get agreement by everyone, so don't try. If you have a spot you plan on having your event, post pictures if you can. Advise what is available in the area: 2 ...
