Re: A bit of Shire goodness

No, I am not, I never went for the additional training either, for those same reasons! Pilots do run in my family. My Great Grandfather was a pilot in the port of Saint John's in Newfoundland. He died in the performance of his duties. In transfering from one ship to another via breeches bouy, the tw...

Re: Sword Scabbards the inexpensive way

This Necro as you put it is also timely as the project I was doing fell by the wayside while trying to finish the blade itself. I am using Pete's method now to do the scabbard and have been taking pictures, so we can compare when I get it done!

Re: A bit of Shire goodness

We started a tradition when my kids were young to have goose on Christmas Day. The kids loved it because I always read them "A Christmas Carol" prior to the holiday. They all loved the: "A goose a goose!" part. of course, when you pay that much for a bird (later I would bag one a...

Re: A bit of Shire goodness

Now I am not quite sure if turkey or their feathers are mentioned( perhaps in Ithilien?) and I think we have discussed it before being a New World Fowl, (Rehashed ad nausium in the SCA) but this would lend itself marvelously to Turkey (or European fowl of choice) and cranberry (or one of the myriads...

Re: Bracer build from youtube

I like the design, though I can enjoy and am not vehemently opposed to the angular nature of all things Dwarven as proclaimed by Weta and PJ, I think there is a lot more to being a Dwarf than straight lines and intricate geometric patterns. Tolkien's basis for the Dwarves culture was a combination o...

Re: Dwarven Bocksten Inspired cloak

Nice work getting out in the icky weather, and nice pictures, as well! Couple thoughts about some of of your observations - It was so windy on top of the ridge that it was hard to stand up, the cloak still kept me warm, the only problem I had was it billowing out and letting in the cold air, my sol...

Re: The Picnic Roll – middle earth carry in less than 10 minutes

On my last trip in kit I wanted to take supplies with me and wear my Bocksten cloak, but I only wanted to bring enough supplies for an afternoon on the trail. Up until now I've used a rucksack, which is difficult to make work with a cloak. Here's what I did: Step 1: Cut a small piece of oilcloth ca...

Re: My first cloak, and a question (pic heavy)

I recall seeing something somewhere talking about Dwarven Bear Cavalry, perhaps I was mistaken though. Your kit is coming along quite well, wish I could say the same for mine. *laughs* as for the shiny buckle, there's a fair few folks on etsy that have lovely buckles, or there's the route of gettin...

Re: Dwarven Bounder?

I too am late to the party and congratulate you on your choice. For my input I would only say that perhaps I look at things different;y but it seems to me that what a ward or warden gets their name from could very well be what they guard, but it also can be from what they guard against, which puts m...

Re: Dwarven Bocksten Inspired cloak

Wonderful outing and great pictures I surely miss my home in the North, much of it looked like that. (I also echo Greg's sentiments as many times I do) In the establishment of your kit. It is very thoughtful and is giving you great results! As I have said before...you inspire me!

Re: My first cloak, and a question (pic heavy)

Silly question, why is it split in the front? One of the main reasons in history that long skirted clothing and armor was split front & back historically was for riding. You see splits on the side for those who go on foot. Dwarves are generally depicted as infantry. Goats man we ride goats! big...

I will have to keep an eye on this not only for the ship itself but what other advances may be discovered! We have only scratched the surface of what we know about these remarkable people and their culture!

Re: Working on a Bree-lander kit

Arg! That is is an expensive price of wood! Do you think you could find it occurring naturally (one possibly ornamental in need of a trim?) There are some places on the internet that you can get rare or uncommon wood. By the time you find it and ship it, I think you may take a liking to good old Eng...
