Re: Seax Review.
Yeah, RD posted it with Saex so I thought I'd bring that up, I figured you'd have known that. The links I found are actually a good read and gave me some good ideas for a knife later on, so at the very least its good fodder for the think tank;)

Re: Seax Review.
that is a very lovely blade Eric, extremely well done, I like it a lot and kind of want one now:-P. I'd be interested to see a cut test on rope or leather to see the edge quality. Not raining on your parade, just a side note, I don't think this blade counts as a Saex. The blade is very close, but I ...

Re: Metalsmith/Leathersmith/Blacksmith
There should be three photos there, I think the other two aren't loading. The set is stainless steel, and the customer wanted a nice medieval "formal set" that was unique but fairly basic and rough. The entire set stacks together fairly well into a leather wrap bundle, hence why the knife ...

Re: Another example of RD's work
I liked your idea of a handle wrap, and while I really dont want to put these back in fire, I have gave some thought to flatening and scrolling the grip terminals, or drawing them to a curly Q something similar to the firesteel above. Many thanks, Cedric 8) In that case, don't put them back in the ...

Re: Another example of RD's work
Well, and see there's some merrit to that. I don't necessarily make a plan for every project, I am definitely an improv craftsman at times, but don't let the improv be used as an excuse to stop half way. If you really push your designs, even if its just an as you go thing, you will find your outcome...

Re: Another example of RD's work
Well, again this could be based on image quality. I don't get the impression that the ends of the handles received much thought. They're just squared off. Based on the size of the pliers, there are forms and shaping that could improve the comfort ability of the tool. For that matter the handles appe...

Re: Another example of RD's work
Would you care to give some pointers on how they could be 'more refined'? Also those pics are the best I can do for the time being. Well, I'd need to be able to see them better, hence why I suggested better photos. I could be wrong, so I was just hoping you had more close ups. I'm sure they're fine.

Got some good photos taken, so here are some of forge work I've done. I think this accounts for about 10% of my forge projects, but hey, it's what I've got. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_CqEfyJeMT1U/SmtcotOjyQI/AAAAAAAAA_0/5GKJbVncBZI/s800/IMG_4706.jpg http://lh5.ggpht.com/_CqEfyJeMT1U/SbSZzyT1rpI/AAAAAAAAA...

Re: Another example of RD's work
No offense RD, but those pliers look quite a bit un-refined. Not in an aesthetic way, but more like they're half finished? Maybe you have better photos? As a fellow metalsmith, I'd be glad to be proven wrong, so maybe you could get some better pictures taken so we can really see them.

Re: Where do you all get your tunics?
I make mine. I get the linen from Fabrics-store.com, wool from Denver Fabrics or FashionFabricsClub.com or similar...and make the stuff myself. My new shirt is hanky weight grey linen and based off a pattern I got from Joanne's. Siani Both of those are excellent sources. But seriously, if you can f...

Re: Where do you all get your tunics?
Not a lot of down time so I gotta make this quick. Muslin is dirt cheap if you buy it by the bolt and when there are sales. 10 yards for like 15$ last time. I've made shirts to match aragorn's to the t, I've made pirate shirts with the gathered shoulders and colars, and most of what I wear is very b...

Re: August Trek - Nor Cal [PICTURES]
Up in Oregon and Washington they're pretty relaxed, to my knowledge, but I'm actually not sure just what the regulations are around here. I just went somewhere where I knew I wouldn't run into anyone for this little trip. I do need to do some research, though. Oregon is fairly relaxed. It still has...

Re: August Trek - Nor Cal [PICTURES]
As far as I am aware, the weapons laws in the northwest were designed by hillbillies and reflect that fact fairly nicely;)

Re: rethinking the rangers weapons
on the original subject of protecting your sword from rust; please forgive my ignorance here, but since your not dealing with a utilitarian blade (i.e. wont receive wear from daily cutting tasks), my first thought was why not use wax? My two cents. There are some machinists waxes that resemble medi...

Re: rethinking the rangers weapons
I have always used a liberal spray of ole wd-40 ( i know not authentic) in my scabbards. I don't know if its made the same way still, but the original wd40 was more or less an all natural attempt at extreme waterproofing. 'Water displacement: recipe 40'. And after looking it up it seams I am wrong,...
