Re: Canoe Tripping
Polynesians have been using outrigger canoes for thousands of years, as in, they've found canoe remains that date 3-4k years old. They've also been using really advanced sail and tracking techniques for a long time too. Outrigger on a little 2 man canoe is something I think a ranger would come up wi...

Re: Canoe Tripping
A lot of semi-modern canoes and kayaks have the sort of gear-racks you'd expect on a medieval canoe. Other then that, It really depends on the canoe, but wrap it in oil-canvass and don't tip.

Unfortunately I still have 2k to pay on my car and 800$ on my credit card from school, so I still can't buy knives. I have a few forge orders too, here's to makin...

Re: Any Modern Boots That Kinda Fit The look?
Thanks a lot for the review Hesinraca, very informative. Considering the price of these boots, it seems to be a terrific deal. Have you tried the strapping idea or seen it done? Sounds like it would work. I tried it with some straps I had around but havent gotten to actually cutting them from leath...

Re: Of Viking weaponry
Well, for the 70# pack, we were also packing in 3 gallons of water each for cleaning, cooking, drinking, becuase there were no real creeks where we went. If we drop the water, that's 26# right there. Basically I need to replace items with skillsets. No backup lighters or fire starters (lint, parafin...

This is so very true. I have experienced it first hand. Backpacking trip one (3 days), carried 75#. Backpacking trip two (3 days) carried 65#, Devon there as well. Backpacking trip three (3 days) carried 45#, devon katie brad and I. This is all just taking whatever we "might" need. I am cu...

Re: Any Modern Boots That Kinda Fit The look?
Considering I have the scaboots robin hood ones it was probably me that mentioned them. So here's my review after having them for almost 8 years. Sorry this is long: Pros: sole is solid but flexible so you can actually move around more like a thinner sole leather boot, and as the boots wear in, flex...

Re: Are High Elves Finno-Ugric?
Well hey, like my first mentor in linguistics told me "The key to linguistics is remembering that the human mouth can only make so many sounds, evne if it is a fairly decent array, and they won't all work for communication, at least not practically. Just find the similarities, because they will...

Very cool set, I am excited to start setting up my gear and your kit has re-inspired me! We just moved, so everything is in disarray, but if you ever get bored enough to come to oregon, I have a coal forge, a coke forge, and a gas forge, and they all want attention, would love to trade bladesmith/bl...

Re: Bulwarking against Bloodsuckers, Biters, and Burrowers
I will let you know as soon as she gets done. There are some herbs with similiar properties to citronella, and whether these need to be in essential oil or can be a diffusion I don't know. I am thinking echenasia and lavander would do it, but I'll check. Also, depending on the previously mentioned q...

Re: Bulwarking against Bloodsuckers, Biters, and Burrowers
An oil infusion of st johns wart in sunflower oil is a decent spf as a sunscreen, and healthy for the skin, BUT, it may also act as a repelent once the oil soaks in. I am verifying this with my apothecary teacher, I will report on any bug repelents she comes up with that don't involve rubbing kerose...
