Wow, that's a great price. Let's hope me bow sells before it's gone.

Re: New Project: Crossbow Refurbishing!
My local bow shop only deals in compounds, so I'll have to do some research. The current string is a steel cable, which is going to be replaced.
There isn't a cocking stirrup; at some point, I'll probably have one of our resident blacksmiths make me one.

New Project: Crossbow Refurbishing!
So I found a wood-stock, metal-limb recurved crossbow at an antique store today. It was 50 bucks, with a 15% discount on that stall in the store, so I'd say I got it for a steal. It's a solid wood stock with steel bars along the top to keep the cable from messing up the wood and all that jazz. It is...

Re: Whats your program for ranger fitness?
Alright, I've taken on some of your ideas/advice, R.D. I went to the local boating supply store and bought a new climbing rope today. I hiked it on over to one of my favorite base camp sites, and hung it fifty feet up in an overhanging oak. It drapes down the top of the main branch, and is coiled up...

Oh, forgot it was epe. You're right; I'm completely in agreement.
Well, if anyone else is interested, have at it; don't hold off because of me. I may step in later on and say I want it, but don't count on it. Mony's a little tight right now, but the new job's starting to pay well, so we'll see.

Re: Falconry - A Ranger's Guide to Getting Started
An apprentice has to trap an immature, or first year bird. They are distinctly different in appearance from adults. 1 out of every 4-5 Red-Tailed hawks dies during the first year, so taking one into captivity from the wild actually increases the overall population by allowing an extra one to survive...

Re: For Sale: Bamboo backed Epe flatbow and custom A&A Dagger
Well the reason I asked is that one selfbow I got off of ebay for David awhile back actually stacks during the suggested draw, and the 48" osage selfbow I used to carry as my personal bow had a draw curve around 1-1-1-1-2-2-4-6-8-10-14 if you get my meaning. Almost nothing until the wall, which...

Re: Rangers romping at Medoc
It looks like you all had a wonderful time! I have yet to come across an ent in my travels, though I have spent many a day deep through the roots of Fangorn. Glad to see you're able to get your family involved with your fun! Though I prefer overall to go out on my own, it's always nice to have a com...

Does the bow stack much? Do you have a rough estimate on the draw weight curve? I've been thinking about investing in a longbow for a while now.

Falconry - A Ranger's Guide to Getting Started
As per R.D.'s request, here's a rundown of how to get started in Falconry. If you have ANY questions about anything I've said here or anything else, please don't hesitate to ask! Falconry is a sport, first and foremost. Hawks and Falcons are NOT pets. The biggest insult you can recieve as a Falconer...

Re: Falconry - Hawk Naming
You guys are being extremely helpful! I think Eric is right; I definitely can't name it until I've had it a week or two to see what its character is like, but I'm quickly developing an excellent list of options, here! I'm REALLY liking several of the names I've seen here; thanks! If you have any mor...
