Re: New Water Bottle!

Thanks! Give it a few trips out and it'll lose its shine. You started working on that bota that you mentioned recently yet?

New Water Bottle, Blowing Horn...and other new stuff...

I finished up the water bottle I made with my leather scraps from Pete today! It has a roughly estimated capacity of 1.75 liters (contents poured into a 2-liter bottle for estimate.) I finished yesterday, but found a small gap in the pitch lining, so I did another coat of pitch today, and it's up to...

Re: MRL Deal of the day

Actually Greg that's Jack's little joke. When I was the first to hit the 50 post mark and the "Silent Watcher" title came up, I said something to the effect that I wasn't so silent was I, to which Jack changed mine to "Talkative" and it has remained ever since. That's cool! On a...

Re: MRL Deal of the day

I just hit 400...I am steadily catching up, Pete! When I joined you were over 200, I believe...I'm coming for you, Mr. Talkative Watcher over Restless Lands! Frankly, I prefer the 'Silent' member title anyway. When I first joined, I assumed that once I hit a certain post count, it'd switch to the 'T...

Re: Gloves???

I wear no gloves most of the time, and in colder weather, I have a pair of fingerless wool gloves from Jas. Townsend. When it drops down into colder temperatures, I have some S&P Swiss mittens that can fit over my wool gloves.

Re: Bows?

Alright, I've acquired the Bamboo and Ipe staves that will eventually become my first of many (hopefully) Ranger-intended bows. I drew up my form last night to plan out where the riser block will run and where the limb core will go, and I daresay I've come up with a design that is structurally sound...

Re: "First Annual" Ranger Photo Contest

If we lack severely in participation, I'll extend it, but February might be stretching it a bit much. We'll see, though.

Re: "First Annual" Ranger Photo Contest

All entries are to be posted here, so no one's entered yet, to my knowledge. There's still a month between now and when the contest ends, but it's only a month, so get out there and take your photos, people! Unless, of course, you want our dear friend Eric here to recieve 5 fishing sets and a bundle...

Re: Bows?

For those of you who craft your own arrows, 3Rivers has a great deal going on right now for fletching. 20% off of dozens, 10% off of 100's. I'm definitely loading up.

Re: Where's Mike?

I've noticed a general overall lack of activity on here in general over the last week or so. In the past, I've found myself spilling my new projects etc. in hopes of striking up conversation, but this time I decided that it'd be better if I not show how forum-addicted I am, and just let it go by, an...

Re: Weapon Descriptions of Middle-earth

Agreed. I own four blades...my VA Bristol, a Ritter Steel Boot Knife, a Nepal Kukri, and a MRL Dagger...no duplicates in any category (though I'm not counting the functional Katana blade I'm making a handle for...)

Re: Weapon Descriptions of Middle-earth

That is a GORGEOUS sword! In the movies, all of the attention is on Sting and Anduril, so no one really takes any notice on the other Hobbit's swords (though the Rohan-made blade Merry is given is quite awesome as well) but Sam's I always thought of as ugly. But I use the excuse that we never see it...

Re: Bows?

To continue our lengthy discussion on bows, bowmaking, and the like, I am currently collecting materials to make my first homemade stick and string. I've been working on the design for months now off and on, and have begun pulling it all together. I'm in love with the grip on my Bear Paw recurve, so...

Update time:

I've been thinking about things a bit, and I've decided to remove the "Miscellaneous" category and replace it with "At the Prancing Pony" to see how creative you all can get with this.

Re: "First Annual" Ranger Photo Contest

Here's a photo of four of a recently finished set of arrows for myself, to entice you all into getting out there, trekking, and taking photos. Again, stain, feather color, thread color, and spine weight are all up to you, so they will be completely custom! These arrows I'm shooting are spined 55-60#...
