Re: Ranger of the Year Award
I'd like to nominate Le Loup, for bringing his depth of 18th century knowledge and making skills to our little corner. I also have a few observations. First, I think that Admins should be available for the prize, but not for their admin service. (And not just because I was nominated) Second, I REALL...

Re: Forum-Wide Lord of the Rings "Picture Book" Project
Ok, I'm a bit confused. I thought mine was due today (not that I have it done) shall I just time it for 1 week out from Jake's?

Re: Good deal on wood arrows...
Interesting. Good info, thanks! I wonder if they would do a set of cedar 3 fletched arrows, without nocks of any kind. If so, it might be worth it to me to just buy them like that, then cut the nocks and do the thread wrapping myself. ** Showing my complete ignorance of archery ** Is cedar usually ...

Is it to early to reserve Chapter 2?
If not, I'll take Chapter 2: The Shadow of the Past.

Re: Erebor Axe
My plan is to darken, and the reason I was going for copper is entirely aesthetic. I like copper.
As for ease of use/cost, is there anything that makes German silver easier to use than copper for inlay?

Erebor Axe
Well, since everyone is posting axes... Here's one I'm working on. I'm calling it the Erebor Axe, and it came from me wondering if I could adapt a Galloglass Axe to a single handed thrower. Since it's fundamentally ahistorical, I figured I'd spruce it up Hobbit style. It's a grind down/weld up from ...

Re: Leather Boot & Jerkin Build Time
I was looking back at this thread to help in guiding me in a certain aspect of my moccasin project when I read this. Is rubber actually historically allowed (that would be nice)? o.0 Or was Greg's sole plan here just a small sacrifice to authenticity for the great benefits of longevity? Like potato...

Yeah, you're probably alright. The thing to avoid with wool is the trifecta of wet, heat, and agitation.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=pleat Hey, there's no call for sarcasm. A gentle answer raises all boats, and might convert a few people. Anyway, in this case pleating done in the correct manner will not be achieved with modern sewing standards. Granted my information is from Google, but not everyone is going...
