I use an 8'x8' tarp. I think the size really just depends on how tall you are/how much space you want.Manveruon wrote:I quite like that tent set-up, Taurinor. However, I like the fact that, with the one Rik posted, you don't necessarily have to have a full 12' by 12' tarp.

I like this set up - bRBtof2pAqI I use the first set up, not the modified set up. It's obviously not totally bug-proof, but it has a door and a floor. Here's my 8'x8' tarp set up like that - https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/4/3/3/highres_436237939.jpeg I was setting up on a sand tent p...

Re: A New Direction
That looks incredible! The cloak itself also looks really well made - very nice seams. What type of fabric is it made from? Is it a half-circle design or does it have shaped shoulders? Sorry to ask you questions about something you made 12 years ago - I'm a sewing geek.

I think you're right about the striker - functional, but with a sort of delicate beauty, which seems odd to say about a piece of steel you use to hit a rock! Maybe something like these I found on Pinterest : https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/01/cb/bb/01cbbbec04b155dc8e545a20c1f887b7.jpg http...

Re: Growing my group
I've started a Meetup, as well. It's less strictly Tolkien and Ranger-themed - more general fantasy hiking and camping. We've become an odd little collection of survivalists, writers, former SCAdians, and general nerds. It's been fun, though. You do have to pay to start a Meetup group, but the basic...

Re: Help With My First-Ever Ranger Trek! (believe it or not)
On another note entirely, you guys wouldn't happen to have any suggestions as to WHERE would be a good place to do this, would you? I mean, obviously none of you live in CO, so that might be kind of a difficult bit of advice to give, but if anyone has insight into what KINDS of places to be looking...

Thanks! I'm definitely going to have to try that first method.

Re: Samick SKB 50 - The Perfect Trekking Bow?
Something to note however, stringing some of the composite horse bows can be difficult. It can entail having to sit on the ground and using your legs to flex the bow while pulling the string back with a belt system. If they are extremely relexed like the one from this image. http://cdn.obsidianport...

Re: Hard kit from my latest trek
Any plans to try and incorporate a bow and quiver or arrow bag? I'd like to. My current thinking on that is to make an arrow bag like this and tie it off to my belt when travelling. I may make the string long enough that I can wear it across my chest like a back quiver. I currently have a longbow, ...

Re: Hard kit from my latest trek
Thanks! The only constructive criticism I can make is: have you thought about natural dying the swag bag?--the white stands out against all the other greens and earth tones. Plus, period-speaking, getting linen bleached to that level of whiteness would've been expensive; natural, beige-ish would be ...

Re: Hard kit from my latest trek
I like them. The design makes them pretty adjustable, and I think they fit comfortably. They stood up to 6 miles on gravel paths and are still going strong, so I figure they'll last a good long while if I stick to dirt paths.Peter Remling wrote:How are the boots, fit ?, durability ?

I finally got kitted up and took some pictures with my pack system. Excuse the scenery, or lack there of - I live in an apartment, so the best I could do was the tree behind the building. http://orig04.deviantart.net/20bb/f/2015/215/7/7/my_ranging_kit_1_by_darthgryffindor-d941mvj.jpg http://orig15.d...
