Re: ''desert ranger''
My summer setup, while similar to my fall/winter/spring kit in most respects, is partially tan/beige, replacing the dark green and brown of my tunic and pants. In the part of northern california where I am, the hills are primarily golden wheat colored; the grass dies off after about 6 weeks of green...

Re: Some more questions...
If I had access to a brig I'd probably wear it. It won't swish or jingle like Maille does (my maille shirt is perfectly quiet...until we start talking about the sleeves; they're short, so they swish fairly regularly) so it'd be far easier to move silently in. In addition, they typically come in mate...

I don't have the spare funds, or I'd be jumping all over this.

Trekking Hygiene - Now with 100% less scouring pads
All joking in Pete's previous thread aside, I've found myself coming back from treks with some seriously nasty teeth. I discovered something that is going to become a regular part of my kit, until I find a natural tooth cleanser in my area. We don't have mint or anything like that around here, so I'...

Re: Arrows
Just a quick question... At the moment my arrows are 11/32 for a fiberglass recurve bow (saving up for a nice wood longbow!), quite small flights and small bodkins. Should I really be using bigger tougher ones like ones for a longbow? 11/32" arrows are fine for just about any traditional bow. ...

Spend a day with me at the lake once a week, Dave, and that'll be easier than you think...I can drag you all over the place to all manner of terrain that just looks painful...

Re: Ranger Cloak Colour
My fall/winter cloak is a grey cloak made of heavy wool. Unlike my shorter cloak, this one comes down to mid-calf, and is rectangular. By propping up the hood on the end of my bow or a spear/stick and staking the corners or tying them to trees, it makes a perfect shelter at night and in the evening...

...as of the 19th, last Saturday, I'm Married. To play to my "strange interests" as Lori's brother put it, he finished his toast twice. Once with the standard "To such-and-so..." and a second time requesting that all in attendance raise their glasses, and clear their throats in a...

Re: Whats your program for ranger fitness?
Good stuff, Willrett! I'm setting up hay bales in my new backyard in the next week or so so that I can shoot whenever I want. I expect my long hiatus from shooting to not only come to an end, but I expect my accuracy levels to go through the roof, metaphorically. However, I'm wanting to set up a log...

Most excellent! I like seeing an axe "coming out" of a railroad spike; it's a cool image.

Re: Deal for anyone who needs a bag!!!!
Greg, that pic is the ration pack that attaches to the top of the bag. If I'm right, you have the same bag as me, which is this one: http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x308/nodney1/1-Ruck.jpg Yep, that's the one. See the little leather "belt loop" on the side? I stitched a second one abov...

New Hatchet Project
Need some advice...I bought a pair of old germantown hatchets on ebay many moons ago, and one of them just got brought back to me via my parents bringing up a pile of my stuff for moving into the new place with. I wanna set it up to use as a part of my kit since I'm not currently carrying a kukri an...
