I'm aware of the debate regarding the bowie knife. Please note I said "before Jim Bowie made it famous.". There was no substantial evidence that a blacksmith named James Black even existed when and where he was reported to.

If you reduce the eggs by 1/2 and add another 4 tablespoons of honey and lay off the baking powder, you'll get a more condensed and slightly sweeter version. Instead of a cake, you'll get more of a cookie which takes up a lot less volume in your pack.

Most Faires say the same thing on their sites but do have a peace tie policy. The announcement is to give them some protection from those that hear weapons and whine-on-line. Those folks don't know what "piece tied or cable tied" is and only hear that there will be weapons there.

A traditional recipe calls for 10lb of salt for 100 lb, fish, pork or beef. I've never tried it but this is a common formula used for long voyages on tall ships.
