Re: Food For Discussion: What Would We Look Like?

A few things spring to mind when I read this. The first is how we tend to arbitrarily assign particular looks to times and places, which are essentially caricatures. For example, if you conjure up a mental image of someone from the 1950s, or 60s, or 70s, I'm sure you what you're thinking would be i...

Re: Lion totem?

I haven't thought much about animal totems for my persona yet, since i'm a newb. But I am a Leo, so lions have always had a place in my heart. Was also the team for my high school (back in the second age, it feels like). A totem has nothing to do with what Tolkien wrote, and certainly not necessary...

She can receive pm messages but you need to remember the time difference between here and the UK. Give her a day or so and unless her mailbox is full, she'll respond.
OK. It's been 36 hours, so I wasn't sure.

Re: More on Amazon's LOTHR Series

Looks like it might be good ? thanks for the link :P Peter Jackson is now in talks with Amazon, possibly to be a producer of some sort- which would mean that Weta would likely do a lot of the design of sets, costumes, etc. , and the series would be consistent with the look of the films. If it turns...

John Howe's "Middle-earth Traveler'

Has anyone else picked up John Howe's "Middle-earth Traveler: Sketches from Bag End to Mordor?" If you like Howe's work (as one of the main conceptual artists of the Peter Jackson films), you'll love this. It's got a lot of pencil sketches, as well as full-color prints. There are some gems...

Re: Food For Discussion: What Would We Look Like?

Interesting thoughts...but was an outlaw's money good anywhere? I feel like some but not all qualities of outlaws are applicable. I'm reaching back to my Crimnal Law course in law school over 25 years ago, but I believe that a self-sufficient outlaw, or band of outlaws, were kind of like biker gang...

Re: Food For Discussion: What Would We Look Like?

I think one of the biggest problems for a Ranger in, say, historical Europe prior to the Renaissance, would be connections. In medieval Europe, society was seen as a continuation of a chain of beings, from God down through various classes of angels, then in parallel, the chain from King on down or P...

Re: Lion totem?

New guy here... while I'm still putting my Ranger kit together, I'll be using a wolf totem in my impression, as a nod to my English outlaw (wolfshead) persona that I used to sport about 35 years ago, when I joined the SCA. Rob I think the wolf is an excellent symbol for the Ranger: sometimes a lone...

Lion totem?

I asked over at the Facebook page, but I'm guessing there may be a few folk who don't access this page and the FB page:

Anyone here have the lion as a totem animal?

Re: Woodland archery - what's the longest shot you get?

On this subject, I have a very nice long bow, but am thinking of getting a small hunting bow. Any suggestions on style and source? I always have had a passion for traditional reflex bows. They pack more punch with less length. I don't own one myself, but a friend has a Turkish Bow from Alibows (htt...

Re: Woodland archery - what's the longest shot you get?

Honest...if you want something relatively inexpensive to get started with in shorter bows, Bows of the Risen Son makes rattan bows that shoot fairly well in very small packages. I particularly like that their product helped me avoid laminated moderns and fiberglass without sacrificing the small siz...

Re: Woodland archery - what's the longest shot you get?

My stance on the decision to choose one over the other, bow over spear, ultimately stems from the description of Aragorn as a traveler and Huntsman. He was equipped for travel first and foremost, and self-preservation. Only in the context of armed companies, both the Grey company and Faramir’s Ra...

Beautiful photos. You've really sparked my wanderlust.

Luckily, headed on a short vacation to the forests and lakes of Michigan's Upper Peninsula soon.
