Re: Preparing for the Autumn patrols...
Elleth: The little leather boot keeps the string and stringer from sagging while the bow is unstrung. It is removed when the bow is strung, stringer and boot being stored in the archer's pouch on my belt. Just a pouch for archery stuff...taper tool for broken shafts, some glue in hard form, replacem...

Yes, in about two weeks. It has already opened in the eastern half of the commonwealth...they are experimenting with an extended archery season there. Might even allow crossbows next year. Ta-rahn! Ta-rahn! Ta-rahn! I probably ought to get some video of using the horn...it has a nice, deep, carrying...

Re: Possibilities...
I had forgotten about the Dragons Wood Inn. Until very recently the ability to go much beyond my own region was essentially impossible. I am only just beginning to venture out again, now we have good vehicles, the children are grown, and things have settled some. I shall keep an eye out for doings. ...

There is a Ranger Moot planned for October down in South Caroline. My lass is putting in for some vacation over that period. If she gets it, if the van is still in good shape, and assuming finances don't take a huge hit, well, we might just manage to visit the southern lands for a little time. I hav...

Re: Medieval Faire
First, this was the first Faire of any kind I have gone to, despite decades of reenactment. So that said; I am informed this is not really a Renn Faire, and it did not at all seem like what I had seen and heard from other people. Rather, it was a medieval faire. It is small, extremely well organized...

Medieval Faire
Well met.
From a Medieval Faire nearby this past weekend. Mutton & Mead. Enjoy, or not, as best suites you.

Hunting for a canoe, or maybe a kayak. Long distance river camping. The vessel might not be period correct, although I will be. ;) Maybe trying to get out to Michigan for St. Hubert's Day; a gathering of the Rangers is to happen there. Making garb, although 14th century garb rather than generic or e...

They are from last year, same as the two at the top. At the moment, we have a white world out there. It won't last long, although still rather annoying.

Good fortune. I lived in Thailand for some years back in the mid-70s. Loved it there.

*amused* Were I present, and I likely would not be, I'd occupy myself by reading sign, listening, and harping when I thought it appropriate. Ranger-Harper, yep. It's what we do. As Mirimaran once said, keeping the old stories and lessons alive in the lonely dark places along the way. Eledhwen en' Na...

Re: GoT - Northerners' recurve bow?
It would depend on the glue used. Some of them weaken or fail when very wet. The Steppes get a fair amount of rain, as does the Taiga. Europe might have been a bit too wet, hard to say. The Vikings did use eastern bows. They have found fittings for them at Birka, along with bits of bow. Exactly how ...
