Re: Patterns on sale

no problem, I bought all of the pouches and bags like that they had on sale plus an archer/forester type costume and it came to about 20 total with shipping which is quite reasonable I think. now to get some nice leather for the leather goods and perhaps some of that silk from the website Manveruon ...

Patterns on sale

Don't know if this should go here in soft kit or not, but McCall's/Butterick has a few of their making history patterns on sale for anyone that needs things like pouches and whatnot, I'm going to be getting all of them since at 2.50 US a piece that's not a bad deal at all. https://butterick.mccall.c...

Re: A possible hood/face mask idea.

that is some amazingly beautiful silk. I'll have to find out how many yards I'll need to get for the shirts and vests I had in mind, but it shouldn't be too overly expensive. however, having just lost quite a bit of weight over the last few months I'm not sure what sizes of shirts I wear any more. I...

Re: A possible hood/face mask idea.

no need to worry about thread jacking, I'm actually curious about the silk you used since I'd like to make a few items from silk for my kit but none of the places I've looked at have silk that has the right feel to it I think.

Re: A possible hood/face mask idea.

I don't know that I'd need it out of wool here in Texas, linen or something similar might be more appropriate for the heat I think. But if I ever do get the ability to visit the areas in which some of you folks live it might be best to have an additional set of kit for cold weather. hmmm...much to c...

A possible hood/face mask idea.

Not sure if this goes here in general discussion or not, but if it needs moved please do so. I came across this while looking for ideas for clothing and thought it might be of use for those wanting a hood with a face mask. http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1350/0747/products/Screen_Shot_2016-09-11_at...

That is an excellent suggestion. I rather like that as well. I might just have to use that.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/255106076/the-lord-of-the-rings-aragorn-ranger-bow?ref=shop_home_active_34 these guys make bows too, but I don't know much about their actual usability or if it's just cosplay items, I haven't messaged them yet as I don't have a need for a bow yet and don't want to waste...

Re: So...this is embarrassing.

HAH! finally figured out how to resize the picture without it looking all smooshed and weird. Now I've got a profile picture with some small bits of what I would consider kit, though the duster isn't 100% accurate to the period/ME history.

Re: Five-Day Trekking Diet Challenge

so I know this is a slight thread resurrection, but James Townsend and son over on his youtube channel talks about making salt pork and a variety of other items that might be appropriate for trekking and such. I know his store has been mentioned in other threads, and wasn't sure if everyone here was...

Re: What happened to this line of the Numenorians?

Thank you both, I'm personally leaning towards an Eorlingas myself, I think it would be easier/better for me with the injuries I have sustained over the years to be someone that at least was once a man of the horse rather than a Dunedain, due to needing a cane to get about easily these days. I'm thi...

What happened to this line of the Numenorians?

So, in doing a little genealogy research for my persona, I came across this fellow named Sorontor who apparently, just disappeared from existence. I'm wondering what might have happened to him and his line, since they were also descended from the kings of Numenor. http://www.tolkiengateway.net/wiki/...

Re: So...this is embarrassing.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes and wonderful advice. I have been seriously contemplating the persona I wish to portray, and while in my heart I am a Ranger of the North...physically, I will not be able to do such rigorous activities any more. So, I must perforce choose something a bit more real...

Re: So...this is embarrassing.

Kortoso, I'm currently living in Texas, prior to that I was smack in the middle of Michigan. I've lived in many states and countries over the years, first as an Army brat and then when I joined for six years myself, good times and good experiences.
