Very cool!
... is that an American army tent I see? How did it work for you keeping off the wind?
Looks like lots of cozy wools at least, and good companionship! How fun!

Re: Hi everybody!
Welcome! You've done some really impressive work!
I seem to recall once upon a time there was a very impressive group doing Elvish impressions in France - any chance they're still going, and if so are you involved with them?

Re: Discovery of Glacier Bay by John Muir
Interesting! I'm gonna bet the cedar matting he describes is woven bark, something like these: Alaska+Native+cedar+bark+hat+ermine+abalone+Wrangell.jpeg https://www.cherylstradingpost.com/native-art/cedar-bark-weaving/ https://www.alaskafloatsmyboat.com/beachcombing/2013/5/11/alaska-ma/ I can't say ...

Re: Anyone else been locked out for the last few days?
Yes, it was downstream of turning off the spamhaus plugin. We got hit with a crippling amount of bot traffic and burned through the quota in a couple hours.Thankfully it happened at the end of the year!
I assume since we're back up Jack has reenabled the plugin.

Hunh. That shouldn't affect domestic fowl though. I had a ton of Toulouse feathers from our last geese flock at one point, and they looked lovely for fletching. Made nice quills, too.

That looks like it's going to be exquisite! Are you doing the inlay as well?
(For what it's worth, I don't think the 45 degree offset would be boring at all)

Re: Anyone cook a goose over their fire?
Thanks all! It went well enough - I roasted it first with skewers over the flames, then let it slow cook in a dutch oven with some onions and butter. The bird really was too old at slaughter though, and while decent enough wasn't the magic the birds of the previous year had been. Well, lesson learne...

Re: Pemmican - Food for thought
I've tried it with less than great success - the taste was something like tallow candles. Maybe I got the ratios wrong, but I really wasn't a fan. I suppose it's rather quick and easy to prepare compared to other preservation methods, and unlike jerky lets you keep the fat - so as a way to quickly m...

Re: Minyacálë - Numenorean Eket (Process Thread)
Those are EXTRAORDINARY!!! What beautiful work! In the first image I love the adaptation of the Numenorian flower-wheel in the second, and especially the use of the same motif in the "arc" of the hilt in the third. (It's faint in the picture, but that's the very best place for the motif I ...

Out of curiosity, how many layers/what material? Do all linen ones wear differently from linen and wool, I wonder?

Anyone cook a goose over their fire?
It might be time for some variety this year. .We've got a couple extra geese in the freezer, and I'm cooking out on a campfire for some folks in a couple nights. I'm thinking of pulling out a goose, letting it thaw, then either roasting on a spit, sticking it in a dutch oven, or setting it...
