Re: Comments on Patterns/Instructions for Ranger Kits

One question: when I fold the entire collar in, should I have the outer edge fold over and envelope the inner edge so that there will be no exposed edges on the collar after the running stitch? Ummm, I'm not quite sure what you're asking for. I hope this might clarify how it's supposed to be done. ...

Re: Comments on Patterns/Instructions for Ranger Kits

I have the kyrtle all assembled now and just need to finish up with some hemmings and reinforcements in certain places, and the neck. I've read through your instructions for the trimmed neck, and I think I understand it, so that's good. However, I am now also considering doing the neck without a tr...

Nice! I'm a fan of the grease lamp. I've had a 4 wick hanging grease lamp for 13 years and have loved it.

Re: Let's clothe a ranger.

First off, I probably wouldn't go for the 18th century style knee breeches and high stockings. Having worn these previously, I don't personally feel that they are very comfortable or practical for ranging (though I'm sure there are scores of 18th Century reenactors who disagree with me). I am not a...

Re: Let's clothe a ranger.

Caedmon, I just noticed the way the cloak in your picture is sewn down the center to just about the center of the chest. I have been looking for a way to keep my cloak from riding up on me and choaking me out! Is this what you use and does it work like it looks like it would? Please let me know wha...

Alternate ways to do a gallery?

So I have been unhappy about my attempts to link a gallery to the forum. At best it has been confusing and underused (i.e. the current galleries). At worst it's been disastrous. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to do it better? I'd be interested in all suggestions, other gallery apps, ...

Re: Let's clothe a ranger.

Hmm, nice idea. I like deadextra's take, which is actually very much like my current kit. Here's my take on a default generic ranger. Mostly going with the North as a medievalized 18th c. concept. I think most of it can be supported in the text. The only stuff I'm going out on a limb with, are the b...

Re: The issue of cotton...

Being one of the main advocates against cotton, here's my personal reasoning... Ranger reenactment is tertiary, after real life and 14th c. Reenactment. In real life, I prefer linen. No great overwhelming reason, I just like it. For 14th c. reenactment, while short grain middle eastern cotton is per...

My stuff for sale/trade (mostly cooking gear)

I have been doing iron and bronze casting for a couple years now. Here are some of my wares. They tend to be to heavy for general ranger use, but figured I'd show them off.
