My wife and I run the literary web site called Halt's Playground we are also part of the SCA as well as this site. Yea true. And I would never ever hike in the John Muir portion even though you can. The bikers will run you down but the ice age trail would be a nice choice to get a gathering of us together.

The kettle moraine trail is pretty close to me and the trails are well made. So I am good with this spot for sure. It does have people on the trail so you wouldn't be completely alone but you could be almost alone in the trails.
