Re: An quick experiment with archery technique
here's a set of new traditional arrows I made: https://i.imgur.com/9eDGqIF.jpg with Bard the bowman's black arrow thrown in for a bit of fun :P "Arrow!" said the bowman. "Black arrow! I have saved you to the last. You have never failed me and always I have recovered you. I had you fro...

Re: A new compass for my kit
I'd use this one, save the money and buy something else for your kit. Once you are where you want to be, then maybe come back and do that. Unless there's a good sale on them. that is a good point, but they aren't really that expensive, the bigger issue is if I actually have time to work out how to ...

Re: A new compass for my kit
Thank you
I did wonder about repainting the compass points with runes, it's not liquid filled and can be stripped down completely, the only reason I didn't was because I might have risked upsetting the balance, I might get another one and try it?

A new compass for my kit
I know it's not historic in any way, but I was fed up of carrying this obviously modern one all the time: https://i.imgur.com/JrBIPmJ.jpg so I got one of these: https://heinnie.com/marbles-large-pocket-compass and because I wanted to be able to mark which way I was walking I painted a white line on ...

Re: On leatherworking?
not quite so familiar with that one, I can't quite remember if it's 1/4'' or 1/3''. if it's the width of a barely corn it's most likely to be the second? I know it's still used in shoe sizes tho

Eofor, Awesome Stuff  You'll note that if the Irish lass on the left drops her arms, the corners of her garment will dip pretty low - maybe even get caught in scraggly groundcover yep, you can note that on the other photos on the etsy page (https://www.etsy.com/listing/644055231/irish-tweed...

Re: On leatherworking?
I saw that Iodo was the last person to comment and I thought she was the original poster! Please, ignore my attempts to convert to UK measurements. LOL, thanks for the thought :P but don't anyone ever bother to do that for me, I buy half my crafting stuff from the US and work in an old factory that...

Re: Torches and light sources
I've always thought those are cool, one of my friends parents use to have one stood on the hearth stone next to there fire, the only thing that put me off trying to buy one was how heavy those big glass lenses are

Re: Torches and light sources
What about 19th century miners lamps? a wild camping YouTuber I watched yesterday had one in a video, and it just looked like something a dwarf might have, to my eye anyway, I had to do some research to find out exactly what it was
possibly too modern tho? just an idea

Re: On leatherworking?
Alright, my parents got me this chunk of leather for Christmas because I'd mentioned wanting to learn how to work with it. I know I want to make a scabbard for my sword, but I'm not sure what else to do with it, and I don't know if it's even the proper thickness. If it is, should I save the rest fo...
