Re: New Shelter
Nice! Now we're one step closer to a period/Ranger camp at Rag! You're a lot bigger than me, so you might be kind of cramped, but have you tried folding yours like I do mine? It's amazing at blocking rain and doesn't allow anything in under the tent.

Re: Good deal on wood arrows...
The base was $70 for 4 fletched arrows (man, can I shoot these things fast!), plus $20 for the bamboo shafts with self nocks, plus $5 for the wrapping around the fletchings, and minus $2 for the lack of plastic nocks, so $93 total. Because he doesn't ordinarily do self nocks, regardless of the type ...

Re: Good deal on wood arrows...
Alright, because he had to get some new materials, it took a while, but now I have my arrows. And they are beautiful. I wanted it to look like they were made on the go with whatever Nemo killed to eat. Essentially, he would have some arrowheads that he bought the last time he was in town, but he wou...

Re: Good deal on wood arrows...
I made an order as well, though for a custom set. No guarantees, but he said that a normal set would take 2 weeks normally. Because I got different shafts and self nocks, he said it would take three weeks or longer. Three weeks is this Friday, so I have my fingers crossed.

Re: Barbarian Winter Garb
Dude, I love that guy's stuff. I'd be perfectly happy if he won. Funny thing is, he apparently thinks I might win.
Now I do remember you saying that Cimmerians don't conceal their identity. But you can protect your gorgeous locks from the rain, can't you?

Re: Barbarian Winter Garb
There is some real stiff competition in that thread. I honestly have no idea who is going to win. Knowing Hanzo and Magnus, though, it's probably going to be one of the armored guys. . . Also, I love your winter gear. I don't think I'd seen it yet. The cloak does have a hood, right? You need a hood ...

Re: New commission pics
Thanks for the info. I'm going to have to make a sheath like that soon. I need a knife to make the sheath for, first, though. Also, did you include any closeups of the sheath for the hawk you have in the overall picture? It looks like it might be a good method for me to use on mine, since I just hav...

Re: New commission pics
I'm loving the sheath with the leaf shaped cutouts. I'm curious about how you were able to stitch it on the straight side of the sheath. Luckily for me when it came time to make my saxe sheath the blade is on the straight edge, so I had to stitch on the curved side, but I would like the look of the ...

Re: Good deal on wood arrows...
You found them for me! I bought two dozen arrows from them years back and I've been needing to restock. They're good arrows, especially for the price. I've never had any break, they shoot as consistently as I can, and you can customize them as much as you want. The reason I was drawn to them, if I r...

Little John the Blacksmith's House of Steel. He had a stand at Dagorhir's big LARP event this year that he shared with Crafty Celts, the people who are making my pommel.

My saxe sheath
I bought a saxe a couple of months ago. I figure a saxe with a tomahawk is the perfect combo for a Ranger; both can function as weapons and tools and they have just enough overlap in their functions to work well together but not be redundant. I fell in love with the weight, balance and size of this ...

Re: Bow-Making course!!
What it didn't help with was my draw fingers getting soft over the years, so they started bleeding after a while. So I taught myself to shoot left handed. I got a lot of string slap. I mean, a lot. My arm was black for three days. But, after a day and a half, I was using proper form with both hands...

Re: Bow-Making course!!
It helps that I don't have a dominant eye. In every single shooting course for bow, shotgun and rifle I took in the Scouts for eight years I tried every test to determine my dominant eye, but I never could. So, I say both of my eyes are dominant. It also helps that I'm just using a 30# youth bow for...

Re: Bow-Making course!!
I've always used string slap to teach myself proper form. When I first taught myself to shoot, maybe 10 years ago, I didn't use a bracer or anything, knowing that, if everything was lined up, I shouldn't be hurting myself. If I was careless and I did, I paid for it. So, I was forced to correct my fo...
