Re: Lessons learned... what exercises to you do?

I found this recipe here - I haven't tried it, but it uses herbs that would all grow together (I think the first four are Herbes de Provence). Vinegar of the Four Thieves Insect Repellent Ingredients: 1 32 ounce bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar 2 TBSP each of dried Sage, Rosemary, Lavender, Thyme and M...

Re: Military structure of Rangers of the Reunited Kingdom

A group of four Ithilien Rangers found Sam and Frodo in The Two Towers, so that seems to support that they moved in small groups, at least when tracking - they were hunting down Smeagol, if I remember correctly. As for equipment (or at least weapons), they were described thusly: "Two had spears...

Re: Pictures of your Sewing Kit

I may get some scissors or snips to keep with my sewing kiit. Here's it all packed up: http://i328...

Re: Match the Picture entry - Taurinor

Thanks, everyone! Maybe I should list the smirk as one of my weapons. As for the rigging knife, I got it from Taylor Rose Historical Outfitters. It's about a foot long overall, with a 7 inch blade. The blade is an inch and a half across, and an eighth of an inch at the spine. The point is practicall...

Nemo got some self-mocked arrows from him a while back. He posted pictures of them in this topic, along with pricing information - http://ranger.budgetauthenticity.org/fo ... =28&t=1810

It was a while ago, so things might have changed, but he's done it before.

Re: Socks or Footwraps

That being said, Taurinor, you wouldn't be able to share the pattern you used for your chausses, would you? I want to make a pair without under-foot seams myself. I sort of winged it when I made them, but I drew a sketch that will hopefully explain what I did. What I wanted to avoid was this: http:...

Re: Socks or Footwraps

I don't wear socks under my chausses, but I've only used them to walk around for a few hours at a time. When I finally get out into the woods, I plan to also bring a pair of 18th century wool stockings as back-up/additional foot coverings for if my feet get cold and/or wet. So, the plan is to go wit...

Re: Cold Steel Seax project (continued)

I've gotten some precut straps from Crazy Crow that I thought were good for the money (especially compared to Tandy's prices) and they also have small squares and rectangles of their strap leather for making sheaths that is a little cheaper than the above link. Nothing already dyed, though. http://w...

Re: Waterproof Ranger boots?

I don't know your specifications for a boot being a ranger boot, but you might like something like this: http://www.revivalclothing.com/restockedtalbotsmedievalkneeboots.aspx I suggest that style because they are smooth grain leather, which could be treated to help with water resistance, and they do...

Re: Scabbard leather wrap tutorial PDF

Wow, the finished scabbard looks really cool!

I really like this tutorial, which is similar, but less ornate. It also includes instructions for a few different ways to make a core, as well as adding an intergrated sword belt.

Re: BEAR WITH ME

If you want something based on what is seen in medieval manuscripts, you probably are going to end up with what looks like an arrow with a tennis ball on the end of it. Well, a wooden tennis ball, anyway. From The Taymouth Hours : http://molcat1.bl.uk/IllImages/BLCD/mid/c666/c6668-05a.jpg You can se...

Re: Pictures of your Sewing Kit

Here is the beginning of my sewing kit. It's a needle case I made, based loosely on an extant 14th century example. When I say loosely, I mean that I saw a picture and said "I bet I could make something like that if I did this..." https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/GIfWokwBM4C2wj-zZD9CJLca4...
