Historic Enterprises carries some bone needles that I've been eyeing, but I'd much rather buy from a forum member if that was a option.

Re: New Pouch!!

Nice! It looks like it'll hold quite a bit. Does it have loops on the back for wearing on your belt? It looks like it might, since the strap to the right of the pouch looks like a belt.

Re: Scrip/Haversack

I usually use bee's wax because we have hives, or paraffin to wax my canvas, but I have read about people on the Bushcraft USA forum using wax toilet rings. Do you have any estimate as to how much it would take to wax about 3 square feet of canvas? It turns out one of the fancy grocery stores nearb...

Scrip/Haversack

This is a scrip I made out of some linen I had lying around. The strap is made from what I was previously using as a sword belt. It's about 13" x 13". I'd like to wax it, once I can find a reasonably inexpensive source of beeswax. http://imageshack.us/a/img543/7602/9018.jpg I wanted to mak...

Re: MY FAVORITE SWORDS

Though if I pack a sword on my back I always modify my back scabbard so that side of the edge facing my left shoulder has an opening in it, and I make it as long as needed; so this makes pulling the sword out fairly easy. That does seem like it would make it a lot easier to draw. Does the slit make...

Re: The beginning of my kit clothing (pic heavy)

I made a new sword belt. It's the same style as my previous one, but quite a bit longer. http://imageshack.us/a/img17/5503/u0ol.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img841/840/7vmt.jpg It might look black in the pictures, but it's a dark brown to match the grip of the sword. The buckle and strap end are pewte...

Re: MY FAVORITE SWORDS

A couple years ago, I had a discussion with Michael pare’ his director and writer about a movie they were doing. Mr Pare’ asked about a comfortable way to wear a sword for a future movie and frankly, there isn’t one. On your back keeps it out of the way but impossible to draw. On your hip is ...

Re: The beginning of my kit clothing (pic heavy)

I really like the falchion, I have thought about getting a single edged sword when I can manage one. I like using a falchion for my ranger kit because single-edged swords make me think of archers and hunters,. Since rangers are archers and woodsman, among other things, it fits well in my mind. That...

The beginning of my kit clothing (pic heavy)

I finally have the clothing component of my kit at a point where I feel like it is worth posting here. It is heavily influenced by 14th century English clothing. A few of my weapons also make an appearance; I hope that's okay. Undergarments - Shirt and Braies http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/8701/qg...

Re: Whenever we build that Inn...

I have the book written by the folks who run Inn at the Crossroads. It's very well researched, with versions of recipes based on medieval texts, as well as updated versions that might be more pleasing to the modern palette. It's a little expensive, but well done and a lot of fun.

Re: Hats

Here is a picture from Osprey's "English Longbowman 1330-1515" of some generic hats from that period an archer might have worn. A lot of them look like variations on the "Robin Hood" style hat, but there is some variety, including ones that look like bags. It's also interesting t...

Re: Swords and Daggers

Hey what about this sword?? http://www.trueswords.com/royal-knight-sword-custom-scabbard-blade-p-2481.html It looks like a nice costume blade, and the price is certainly right for that application. It's stainless steel, though, so you aren't going to be able to do any cutting with it. Depending on ...

Re: ranger horses

Mike Lodes spends about five minutes on the medieval traveling horse in his show "Going Medieval". The horses have a special gait the "amble", a very quick pace with little of the bouncing you'd get from a normal gaited horse. If you get a chance to see this show do so, well wor...

Re: Boots Boots and more Boots

Those boots look great! Just be careful with the natural soles, they can get a little slippy! I have a pair of these boots and they wear quite well : http://www.darkknightarmoury.com/p-3158-knee-length-medieval-shoes.aspx (an fyi, I got those 3 years ago for 110.00, prices are going up!)
