Re: The beginning of my kit clothing (pic heavy)
Thanks! That means a lot, especially from someone with such a well thought out kit as yourself. Are those the "Medieval High Shoes" from Boots By Bohemond? They look great! I may have to invest in a pair myself after seeing yours. I love my current boots (Franken-boots though they may be),...

I really like the horn containers - I've been trying to figure out a way to carry things that need some waterproofing without resorting to little tins.

Re: The beginning of my kit clothing (pic heavy)
It's a single thickness. I was going for a three-season sort of garment, so I'll probably need to make a heavier winter one or make a wool arming cap to swap out with my linen one.Elleth wrote:Did you line your hood? Or is it a single thickness of wool?

Re: The beginning of my kit clothing (pic heavy)
Finally took a picture of my kit out at the shooting range. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/PbJc3wPyyvE_9c060rOOyrspOFnzIqYX9Jof22lSR77TbCokIpaM1rf3JDY6pcYgg3GL0ez7kJ9j6ELXE0V-dziY9wG7gge9qEwWLJKwOzQhi1XCoGUrDDlsz_tI8EfQv2T-ayw6NA I think the browns work pretty well with the surroundings, but I th...

Wow! That looks amazing! The star remains on my old one until I find a way that I'm pleased with to age/patina stainless steel. Input appreciated. I've never tried it, but you can buy treatments specifically for aging stainless, like this: http://www.sculptnouveau.com/Details.cfm?ProdID=78&categ...

That has happened to me. I usually wear a glove when I shoot off my hand to keep it from happening.wulfgar wrote:I am having some issues with the fletchings cutting my left hand.

Longbow drawing hand position preferences?
I was recently reading this article on medieval longbow technique , and I was intrigued by the instructions for how to position the string on the fingers of the draw hand. hold the string on the second joint of the first and the first joint of the third finger For one, I'm having a very hard time vi...
Re: Hats
Thanks, everyone! It was a lot of fun to figure it out. That looks great! I was going to get a blank from Historic Enterprises, but this may be a cheaper route. I'm sure the blanks from Historic Enterprises are very good quality, so it may be a 'get what you pay for' sort of situation. If you can fi...

Re: True WMA in film
Slightly off topic but, where did you get a copy of Solomon Kane that is playable in the states ? I looked forward to this film coming out and then it never played in theaters here. I was more than slightly pissed ! I got the DVD as a gift several years ago and it was all region. It's also currentl...
Re: Hats
So a broad brimmed hat is a vital piece for this person. Something akin to those worn by the musketeers in their movies? only not as flamboyant! It seems the Brothers Hildebrandt agreed with you; you can see Aragorn wearing a musketeer-esque hat in this painting of the Fellowship . This weekend, I ...

Sorry about the off-topic question, but how do you like the Windlass archer's axe? I've been eying it for a while now, but just can't make myself pull the trigger on it.Willrett wrote:Here are two pictures of my gear box. It currently has alittle of everything in it.

A lot of people on the board have made bottles like this. Here's one thread: http://ranger.budgetauthenticity.org/fo ... le&start=0 but there are several others in the Crafts section.

Re: Internet Search in need of some Assistance
I have a buckle from Revival clothing (http://www.revivalclothing.com/bucklesa ... dings.aspx) that I'm happy with.
I haven't ordered from Historic Enterprises, but they also carry buckles (http://historicenterprises.com/reenactm ... c-102_184/)

Re: Armour
I agree that use of armor by rangers would probably be based on the situation, and I found a couple of quotes that support this idea. From FOTR, Chapter 3, The Ring Goes South The Company took little gear of war, for their hope was in secrecy not in battle. Aragorn had Anduril but no other weapon, a...
