Re: Yet another sword practicality thread

I wondered how the replicas would handle since they really aren't meant for usage, just wall décor. ... like the overgrown stamped butterknives they are. :/ I think of Elvish items to include their weapons (those things they themselves use, not those things they may trade) as looking as though the...

Re: Yet another sword practicality thread

From an aesthetic point of view I'm not al all partial to the WETA elven "butterknife" swords - at least for Middle-earth. I wish they'd kept them more to the mold of Glamdring. From a practical point of view - I don't think handling any of the replicas will teach you anything, as the offi...

Re: Elven Memorial Pouch

Oh no.. I'm so terribly sorry for her. I think WETA did a pretty darned good job for the elven aesthetic, at least in the first trilogy (thank you Lee and Howe!). Anyhow, a huge part of why their work holds up I think is that is not overly representational. You see the curve of a leaf in a s...

Re: Dwarvish Axe

Nice leatherwork! NORMALLY I'm all for making do with what you have on hand, especially when you're just getting started and have a lot more time then money. That said, sometimes I think it's best to leave a thing be what it is, rather than spend hours of your life and too-much-money trying to turn ...

Re: Impending replica sword shortage?

Oof... from what I've heard of Chinese industrial areas, that's probably a good thing. Some of their people have been living in a hellscape. :( I suspect most all the products with demand will be available again in a year or two at the outside, probably a bit more expensive and perhaps minus some of...

Re: Leather weight for boot soles?

I think you'll wear through the derskin in no time, even off pavement. The 18th c. guys go through moccasins like nobody's business. I think you want at least 7oz, but agree the 15 sounds awful heavy, so... leaning towards 10.

What dont you like about that set?

Cool!

I can't tell from the video - mostly 3D game targets on the field course? About what range do people usually shoot at?

Re: 3rd Age Dunedain Back Quiver - Take IV

I would LOVE to hear a story about the sound guys getting upset at all the arrow rattling on set or something... One of the c.2001 art books has early concept drawings of Legolas' quivers, and at least one has an arrow sock. So it was an idea they were playing with well before they got to productio...

Re: Tolkien Family In Talks To Sell LOTR TV Rights

Done well , I could actually quite enjoy a "fill in gaps" series set in the Angmar / Arnorian civil war era. There's certainly a lot of drama to mined there, although I suppose "human kingdoms squabble while existential evil gathers strength in the north" will read as derivative ...
