Re: The Hobbit - 2012

I'm pretty sure it's from Chronicles of Narnia. It's a Disney film and Weta DID do weapons and armor for it.

Re: Concerning Pipe-Weed

Within the past few years I've considered taking up pipe-smoking on occasion, as a leisurely activity to do once in awhile. But I come from a family of cigarette-smoking fiends (and have lost several close family members to the stuff) and am proud that I never walked in their footsteps concerning th...

Re: Dunedain Stick Ball

I would think a big game for them (if they were even prone to playing games) would be something of a hide-and-seek variant to test their skills. It would be both entertaining and informative, would allow less skillful individuals to improve and would be a good way of maintaining those skills during ...

Re: New-er-er Dwarves!

Excellent video. Triangle Head didn't look that bad in action. I really enjoyed the bits with the actors' perceptions of the characters and the project, really cool stuff.

Re: Opinions on this weapon of the Dwarves

Personally I always imagined the mattocks as being the axe/digging tool type, mostly because Tolkien says it is used for "hewing" through orcs. Hewing is used specifically for cutting blows, and historically has heavy connotations to axes. I don't think Tolkien, as a linguist, would have o...

Re: New Guy

Thanks guys! I'm flattered! I'm sure, having a background in blades, you most likely have a fim grasp on historical garments and the like, but for a quick look at developing a basic kit, you can hop on over to http://thewildlotr.blogspot.com for an article on basic Ranger kit to help you get...

Re: United Cutlery Glamdring

Brendan from FableBlades made a version of Glamdring that, aside from the brass and white grip, was dead-on for the film-prop. It has since sold but he would be game to make a new one, with steel fittings and the proper grip if one so desired.

Re: Joann Fabrics 40% off sale

Not sure how you guys feel about bumping old topics, but I figured since the thread was already here.... Anyhow, the sale in the original post is over, but Joann's also has ALL of their linen and wool on sale for 50% off. It's really ALL of their home decor fabrics, but I figure the wool and linen w...

Re: New Guy

Thanks everyone for the welcome! I've been lurking (and will continue to mostly do so for a bit still) so I can go through and read all the topics on questions I have. Don't want to have to ask the question if it's already been answered. Reading about kits and where to pick up certain items (most of...

New Guy

Hello all, I was recently invited on the SBG Forum to join here by Pete, and did so after lurking for the last two months. Very nice community you have and I recognize some of the names/faces from SBG, myArmoury and SFI. Currently no kit, though looking through all the topics and pictures I sure as ...
