Re: Boots Boots and more Boots

I would say the medieval high shoes look like they are a bit higher than ankle, but perhaps a bit lower than a true calf boot. Still, I quite like the look of those. I may definitely have to invest in a pair myself. It would definitely be a safer bet than attempting to make a pair from scratch, whic...

Re: Shoulder vs Hip Quiver

And then there's me, who still bangs his head and elbows on everything, and seems to smack everyone in a three-foot radius whenever wearing a sword or a quiver of arrows. I'm afraid I'm not very graceful for a ranger, haha. This is definitely one good argument for a hip quiver.

Re: Custom Sword Build

Thanks guys!
Peter - I agree, the pommel does look a touch thick, and I'm not precisely sure what the weight and dimensions of it are just yet, but I'm trusting Ernie to ensure that it counterbalances the blade properly.
And Greg, if ever we do finally cross paths, you ware certainly welcome!

Re: Ultimate Ranger Cloak

I dig it. The way it works is almost as if it was just a plain hood with a reeeeaaaally long shoulder mantle. It's actually very similar to my shawl style too. All that would need to change to make it the same would be to split it up the middle. And of course mine has no hood, but a hood could easil...

I'm with you - I haven't a clue how they do it, and frankly it kind of scares me, haha.

Custom Sword Build

Hey all! Some of you may remember me mentioning a while back that I was commissioning a custom sword, built on a re-ground Hanwei/Tinker Early Medieval Single Handed Sword blade, from Ernie over at Yeshua's Sword (http://www.yeshuas-sword.com/). Well this past week Ernie finally got back to me with ...

Okay, just checked them out, and I have to say, I'm really in love with their Medieval high shoe.

Re: Opinion

Thirded.

Yeah, those boots look great! I've been thinking of getting some from Viking Leathercrafts, who also sell some very reasonably priced period footwear, but I will have to check out this site as well! Thanks for sharing, Caedmon!

Re: Opinion

Yeah, Ringulf is right. I used to sell them at a costume store I worked at ages ago, and while as a costume boot they are perfectly decent, they won't hold up to the abuse most of us rangers would put them through. Although I have admittedly seen a few people at the local ren faire rocking them, and...

Re: Ranger Duster?

Yeah, Ringulf basically nailed it. I do think there is a historical basis in the Viking era for long leather coats of a similar design though. At least I seem to remember seeing some reenactors wearing things of that nature.

Here's a sort of simplified version of that. They've just rounded out the corners, and widened the split:

Re: Ultimate Ranger Cloak

Taurynor, I find yours looks quite a bit like Strider's pre-Fellowship cloak. I dig it. I'm also personally a big fan of the "shawl" cloak design, for lack of a better word. Basically it's just a rectangle with a small circle cut in the center, and then a long slit cut up to the circle. Th...
